re: Medicaid Question

posted 13th Nov
Are you pregnant? And do you live with your boyfriend?

If it's like everyone else said, it only matters with living children...and if the father for your youngest is already accounted for (you get child support from him), then they wouldn't count your boyfriend's income. Yet.

After the baby's born, he will put it on the insurance he has through work. The lady said that since we don't go around acting like we're married, we don't call each other husband and wife or file a joint tax return, they didn't have to include his income.

Thanks. We're talking of getting married, and were talking about it before I got pregnant. We don't want people to think we're doing it just because I'm pregnant. He already carries insurance on my older two(he is actually my first husband....yeah, we're complicated).

Um, "acting" like you're married and calling each other husband and wife has nothing to do with anything. I can go around calling Brad Pitt my husband but that really has no legal standing, lol.

You just said that after the baby is born, he/she will go on your boyfriend's insurance. If the baby was going on Medicaid with you, you would have to include the father's income if you're living together and he is the father of the baby. Period. That does not vary by state.

I was IN the Medicaid office when I filled out my application. I did it just like the lady said to. Don't yell at me because I was told they didn't have to include his income. That's what I was TOLD by the Medicaid worker, so it's what I'm going by.

Yes, I'm saying you wouldn't have to include his income. You're acting as though what you're saying is contradictory to what I said, and it's NOT. So saying that it "must vary by state" is not true because you're describing a completely different (and irrelevant) set of circumstances.

I think I misread your previous statement. My sincerest apologies. Yes, if the baby was going to have Medicaid, they would have to include my boyfriend's income.
