Hcg dropping then rising ?

My friend is really stressing about this so I thought I'd ask you ladies to see what you think.
The OB says she is about 5-6 weeks but they don't know exactly.
her HCG was 15,000 dropped to 12,000 and then back up to 18,000 and on thursday it was 27,000.

They did an US and saw a sac but no baby or heartbeat.

What do you ladies think ? Miscarriage or just early ?

Sounds like a blighted ovum   With levels of 27,000 there should (at the very least) be a fetal pole. I'd tell her to wait it out for a few more weeks and see though cause you never know.

With this pregnancy, early on, my levels rose, dropped and then continued rising after that. They said I may have lost a twin.

That being said, with levels that high, they should have seen at least seen a baby. It could be a blighted ovum. I would tell her to ask them for a repeat u/s at least a week from her last u/s to rule that out.

This, or possibly a molar pregnancy (since they're not seeing a baby).

That is a possibility too.
