re: Hattie.

posted 13th Nov
I like Hattie, it's cute, vintage and underused - but I think it may be TOO cute as a full name? I couldn't imagine trying to be a full grown woman in my career and introducing myself as Hattie, it would feel a little juvenile. That being said, I would sure as hell rather see Hattie than another freakin Hailey, Kaylee, Kenzie........

Maybe.....

Hattie Pearl
Hattie Magnolia
Hattie Victoria
Hattie Rosemarie
Hattie Matilda
Hattie Eleanor
Hattie Eloise
Hattie Estelle
Hattie Ramona

Something quirky and vintage.....

Really? I think it would fine on a grown woman. I don't know. Hattie Ramona and Hattie Matilda are cute, though!! Thanks, Lola.

It's probably just me - people have been named things like Lucy and Lily for ages and those age just fine. I think I have an aversion to names ending in an EE sound - but I'm a nut about nicknames, too. For me, I can't consider a name unless it has multiple nickname options.

I have the opposite issue. I named my first two names that I LOVE the full name and hate all the nicknames. Marcus, HATE Marc. Jillian, HATE Jill.

Don't you hate that? This is why I could never use Victoria. It's one of my all time favorites, but Vicky? Tory? Eh......Our top name for a girl right now is Cordelia and he wants to call her Cordy, which I hate, it reminds me of rope. But that still leaves Cora, Corrie, Delia......

That's my problem with Penelope (other than the popular aspect). I really hate Penny.

The popularity is what took it off our list - it's just climbing way too quickly. I don't love Penny, either. When it was on our list, Lola and Nell were the nicknames we had "picked out", I know, we're weird.

Yeah. Nel/Nellie is an OK NN.... but I don't think I can use it anymore because of the popularity.

BF likes Sally. It seems so.............. generic, to me, I can't get into it.

Lol, Sally is random! I'm starting to realize there generally isn't a rhyme or reason as to what guys like in a name. Sally isn't bad, though, honestly. I think it feels generic because it's used in children's books and as the typical little girl name on TV and such, but in reality, it's really underused! I would be quite delighted to meet a little Sally, but it's probably not one I would use, either. Whats killing me is that I adore the classics or anything vintage and thats whats so in vogue right now and while I'm so happy that the top 10 is comprised of *mostly* beautiful, classy, old school names - it also irks me because I will find what I think is an undiscovered gem and all of a sudden, I see it everywhere! Penelope is one, I've loved it for years, it was a contender for my son - I'm almost glad he was a boy and I didn't use it! Now it's happening with Edith - of all the frumpy, clunky old lady names for people to catch on to, it had to be Edith. D: (if you frequent nameberry, you will know what I'm talking about).

I love love love Hattie! It was on our list as Hattie Caroline or Hattie Coraline. BUT Tori Spelling just named her daughter that so it may be off the list if we ever have another.

Yes!! And Eleanor.... people are using that name all the friggin' time now.

I don't know. Especially with the last name being short AND starting with "S"... Sally just makes no sense to me. He's friggin' obsessed, though, and convinced whenever we have our first together, it's going to be a girl.

lol, maybe just put it on the "list" - he may forget about it by then. Or maybe offer it up as a nickname?
