I was on them as a teenager, and took myself off them after about a year. Doc said I'd probably be on them until my mid to late 20's at least. Shows how much he knows. My stepfather was prescribed antidepressants for back pain because his docs couldn't fix his back, I couldn't freaking believe it. Apparently, his "stress was causing his back pain". IMO that's docs going "smurfed if I know, give him happy pills to shut him up". They hand that stuff out like lollies, it can't be good for anyone

I've been on Venlafaxine since before I was pregnant.
My Dr said there are 'some' risks, but they are extremely minor, and it all depends on which anti-deppressant you are on.

Ones like Prozac or Zoloft are extremely risky, whereas ones like Fluoxetine are safe during pregnancy.

Ugh I was on fluoxetine, had the most horrid side effects. I heard Prozac and Zoloft can cause suicidal tendencies when prescribed to teens. It's sad that instead of doing what it should and making things better they make things a whole lot worse

Also Mirena. If you watch those commercials, every reason they list for the law suits are side effects LISTED ON THE DRUG. I think its complete bullsmurf, but thats JMO

Almost anything you take can have potential side effects/risks to baby. It doesn't surprise me at all.

But if the docs know about it and downplay it to make money.. That's a really smurffy thing to do. :/

They do it all the time though. It's better to just assume it's not worth the risk unless it is absolutely necessary to take it, like your body won't function without it.

I was put on Venlafaxine at 14, I personally think because my Dr was too lazy to bother helping me with councelling or anything.
Now that I'm pregnant I've started councelling and it has helped me more than those pills ever had, so I'm now really motivated to get off them.
What we're the Side effects you had on Fluoxetine?
Because my Dr suggested I change to it, but I'm really weary on how they will effect me.

I had severe constant nausea and headaches, was tired all the time, and was really achy for some reason. I've heard they work really well for other people though, maybe I'm just weird
I agree with you, most docs don't bother recommending counseling when maybe that's all that's needed.. they'd rather medicate. It's really sad.

Fluoxetine IS prozac

I was on prozac and seroquel my whole pregnancy, and aside from a few mild sensory issues, Cora is just fine.

For me, the benefit outweighed the risk

My doc referred to it as "baby prozac", like it was a lighter version or something. Not sure how accurate that is though.
I definitely think that for some people it's really necessary, it was necessary when I first got on them as well, but for doctors to just hand them out for every little issue people have is just irresponsible and wrong.
Sorry if my typing is a bit screwed up, it's 1am and I'm exhausted. Should be sleeping but keep getting side tracked

This is exactly how I feel.
I was put on Zoloft during my second pregnancy. I was informed of the risks and we weighed my options.
When the risks are on the smurfing info sheet in the box, AND your doctor tells you about them, how the hell can you sue?!

I always wondered the same thing

Like if there is a sign that says "no trespassing" and I go through it anyway and break my leg, I couldn't sue for that (could I?)

That would be dumb as hell. Why bother with warnings if that is true?
