A friend of mine had a 27 weeker with no steroid shots. He didnt have to be intubated for very long but was on cpap for a while and came hone on oxygen. He was born in october and didnt come home until december.

Tates mommy, thank you! Sorry for the post and run. The reason I am asking is because at 30 weeks with my first I went into labor and started to abrupt and I did not have time for both shots. She had a very rough nicu stay and almost died because hee lungs were so bad. Then with my second I went into labor at 25 weeks and my labor progressed pretty fast and they finally stopped it right as they were getting ready to take me to the or.I was given the steroid shots then. I held on until 28 weeks and they had to section me fast as they suspected I was abrupting. I'm afraid something will happen again and I won't have time to get the shots. I've tried to ask my specialist about getting them BC I'm 26 weeks now and I have complete previa. She said not unless something happens and I end up in the hospital.

That sucks they wont give them to you.

My friend lost her second son at 23 weeks.

With her third they gave her a cerclage and then she got the steroid shots at like 25 weeks I think.

She delivered him at 38 weeks!

Good luck to you hun. I hope this pregnancy goes perfect for you!

I got both shots with my son. They gave them to me at 24weeks because of IC. Kept him in for another week but he was still on the vent for almost 5 weeks, cpap for 2, high low for one, low flow for one and then off all O2 til he came home. He also had to have surfactant at 3 and 5 days of life. I think it is really hit or miss whether the shot actually benefits--what I think is important is the mag drip because it protects the baby's brain from bleeds from the change in pressure inside to outside the womb. I was on mag drip for 12hrs while on hospital bedrest and he only had a small level 1 brain bleed that resolved on its own by day 5 of life.

Thats sad, but I am glad she made it so far with her 3rd. I am right at the time where it seems like things start to happen. I have an appt with my reg OB this coming Friday so I am going to bring it up to him. They gave my friend the shots at 24 weeks and she ended up delivering at 38-39 weeks. I just don't understand why she won't esp with all of my history.

Yeah, I def heard the mag was good for the brain. My first I had some mag and she had no bleeds, she was also a 30 weeker though. My second I was on the mag quite a bit around 25 weeks and no bleed either. Really hoping my reg OB will listen to me this week. He is usually great and always listens to me so we will see what happens. Thanks so much ladies!

DD was born at 27/4. I got 1 steroid shot 4 hours before an emergency c-section. I doubt it did much.

She was the size of a 24/25 weeker. She was incubated for 5 hours then cpap which she was on a couple weeks but only cause they couldn't fnd a cannula small enough for her nose/face. She was lucky enough to never have any serious oxygen issues.

That gives me hope!! I am 26 weeks today and my uterus has been acting up for a few weeks. This is usually how it starts, harmless and then full blown labor. Thank you!

Hopefully good news for you! I have been getting mine measured every 2 weeks since I was around 15 weeks. It always looks good. I usually am fine one day and the next its bad.

thats exactly how I feel! I don't see a reason why they shouldn't. Like I said, I am going to talk to my reg OB this Friday about getting them.

I had my son at 26 weeks and 5 days. They won't give you the shots unless you are in the hospital because their peak effectiveness only has a 48 hour window. If your child isn't born in the window, they are almost completely useless. I learned all of this when I was in the hospital for severe Pre Eclampsia and am really surprised that you aren't aware of it if you've already had such an early birth.....
