Advice for RSV

posted 12th Nov
Any moms have any advice on how I can prevent my daughter getting RSV? She's already had bronchiolitis a few weeks ago.

The normal things. Hand washing. Avoiding crowded places. Keeping holding and touching to a minimum by strangers and only after washing their hands with people you know. They have signs you can hand on the carseat/stroller that say not to touch the baby.

I had to do a few seasons of these precautions. We honestly almost never went out during RSV season.

Wash your hands religiously, breastfeed, avoid crowds and sick people, etc. the same way you would avoid any other illness.
My daughter was hospitalized at 2 months with RSV. It was scary.

ETA: I just noticed that this is in parents with preemies and I know nothing about that so the precautions may be different.

Nope, same precautions. Just more important often.

Other then, OP, you can ask if your kids qualify for the Synagis shots for RSV. My preemie did for her first 3 RSV seasons. Few qualify, but it's worth it to ask IMO.

This. My son just started his synagis shots this month for his first RSV season. He was a micro-preemie. Don't like that he has to get poked every month til march but it is way better than ending up in the hospital!

Ask about Synagis. My son was born the day I turned 35 weeks and he doesn't qualify (he misses the "cut off" by hours). I make everyone wash their hands before they hold or touch my son, which angers my in laws because he just turned 6 months old.
RSV can present as a simple cold in adults and is usually dismissed as allergies. I know I cannot stop him from getting sick but I sure as hell am not going to risk him getting RSV because someone gets offended by handwashing. He had RDS at birth and spent 2 weeks in the NICU so I really don't care what anyone thinks.
