Why repeat pap every 6 months?

While I was pregnant with my son I was told i had HPV and after I had him I had to have a biopsy done and it came back as mild dysplasia and had to have cryo done. Why do i have to have a repeat pap every 6, what's the worse that could happen?

They do it to make sure there has been no change in the abnormal cells.

to make sure it doesn't turn into cancer.

they repeat them so often to make sure nothing is growing back and you're staying healthy. if they catch something quick its much easier to fix

Well I haven't been back in almost a year =/

she asked what is the worst that could happen? umm, cancer. yes cancer is the worst that can happen. not uninformative, direct. and yes scary, cancer is scary.

I have the SAME thing.. and its to make sue it dosent turn into full blown cancer.. cause once that happens it can spread.... I finallly had a pap came back normal after 2 years! and i still have to go back in 6 months to make sure it dosent come back.

I would definitely go back. It's for your health. I know it sucks having to go back that often, but it's better if there is any change, that it's caught early on.

No it wasn't....She asked what the worst thing that could happen.

I know. Better safe than sorry. I hope i don't have to have cryo done again, that hurts like a bitch!

and i would rather be honest and straight forward then shy away from a topic as serious as cancer. if you just say well its to be sure nothing is coming back, and it is for your health and safety, more than likely her next appt will be put off. if you say the truth, you could have cancer if it does not get caught in time, maybe she will be sure to go to her next appt.
