WHOS HAD MEMBRANES STRIPPED???

posted 12th Nov
Im 37 weeks, baby is very big doctors going to strip membranes in 2 days if i make it that far. Im already 2 cm dialated and 50 percent efffaced.
My questions are:
Does this hurt?
How long after did you go in labor, if at all?
Were you dialated and such when this was done?

and please tell me anything you think i should know as well.
THANKS LADIES :}

I think it's a good bet that this may help you along with labor. I had a friend who had hers stripped and went into labor the next day. Some say it's painful, some say it's not.

I didnt, but my sister had to have it done 3 times before it worked. She had it done Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Saturday she went into labor. She was 41+1

It was uncomfortable when he did it.

I had it done twice. I cramped horribly after, but didnt progress me at all.

I had mine during labour to try to move things along.
It kinda hurts, more really uncomfortable and invasive feeling.
It's over in like 10 seconds though, you may cramp and spot after.

What exactly does getting membranes stripped mean? Is it like removing your plug or something?

They basically put their fingers inside your cervix and gently try to separate the amniotic sack from the uterus. It can stimulate the release of prosteglandins which help to soften your cervix, possibly starting labour

Thanks for letting me know! Pretty sure I want no part of that! Did anyone get infections after having it done?

It's a pretty standard thing they do to induce, sounds worse than it actually is and they'll usually try that before trying other methouds of induction. I didn't get an infection, the biggest risk is after yur waters have broken, but the risk is still relatively small.

Thanks everyone. Well since babys so big they said They will be inducing at 39 weeks.
I was also induced with first baby at 37, but i was having complications due to low amnio water.
Since im already ripening and dialating hoping the first time works!

How do they know your baby is big? Do you have GD? Because their weight estimates can be off by alot.
