re: Drinking around children

I don't drink around our son....I don't necessarily think it's wrong to have a drink or two around a child, it's just not something I would do.

i think that if you are a drinker its better to drink responsibly around your kids as apposed to hiding it. kids do what they see, so if they see that mom and dad have a few drinks here and there but dont get drunk then thats what they will do (hopefully). i know alot of people whos parents were anti drinking all together and when they grew up they went crazy drinking.

I drink around my kids all the time, and I'm not a big drinker, so it's usually about half a drink. I think it's important to model responsible drinking to your children if you drink. Don't hide it.

We both drink around our son, but neither one of us get smurf faced. DH usually only drinks a beer or two whether DS is around or not. Over the weekend while visiting my BIL and SIL I had 6 of those Lime-a-Ritas throughout the day. DS has been to a diaper bash where they had a keg. We don't hang out with anyone who is obnoxious when they drink so I've never felt like I needed to keep DS away when alcohol is around.

I don't see a problem with it. I don't really drink anyway, but at family events everyone drinks beer/margaritas. Most of them don't get drunk usually, but even if they do we just laugh at them... I don't think I would be comfortable getting drunk around him though.

Hard Cider
It's an amazing beverage.

Why not? Nothing wrong with having a beer or two. I wouldn't get smurf faced or do keg stands or anything like that around my kid.

Yes I drink around my children, my son is 3 and he knows what a beer is and hes not suppose to drink it. *shrugs*
I do not ever get drunk around my son nor would I even want my son seeing that. But having 1 or 2 to relax or have with dinner I see no issue with it. I rather see someone drinking a beer or glass of wine then smoking a disgusting cig. but thats just my opinion.

Quoting Kelly&Coralie:" I was just going through the fridge and saw an ice cold woodchuck. YUM So I opened it and took a sip ... [snip!] ... your kids? Do you think it is bad to drink while they are awake? Obviously not getting drunk, but just a beer or something?"
We have wine at dinner very often.. I'll have a cocktail or two if we've gone out to dinner, and we often have people over..
I believe it's fine to expose children to responsible drinking habits in lieu of hiding it from them.

I see no problem with like, a beer or a glass of wine with dinner. In fact, I think that, especially as they get older, seeing a healthy relationship with alcohol - ie, responsible drinking at home, quitting after one or two, not driving drunk, etc, is probably a good thing - setting a positive example. Obviously, I wouldn't get drunk, or even tipsy, around my children, but...if you make alcohol a taboo, they're just going to be that much more curious about it as they get older.

I drink around my son---so does my family.

Dh's family and my family are all big drinkers, every get together there is drinking. We also frequently drink at home, I see no problem with it, someone is always sober.
