Induction

posted 11th Nov
I want to start off by saying that i plan to refuse induction until 41 weeks, which is all the further that my Ob and hospital will let you go. But in the case that i DO have to have one, i'd like to be informed. I'm reading up on inductions on google, but i'd like to hear some real life stories.

If you were induced, what was it like? Would you do it again? Any info would be helpful!

TIA!

I was induced twice with B and it ended with a c/s. I would never choose to be induced again unless it was medically necessary.

If you were dilating, why did they induce you?

I was induced and it wasnt any different than not being induced but 41 weeks to me is more than a good time to consider induction

My induction was so amazing that for months I was scared to have another child because I thought there was no way labour would be that easy for me again (that i got lucky). The worst part (by far) was getting the IV inserted, needles cause me a lot of anxiety.

However, my (mostly) spontaneous labour was so much easier and more pleasurable.

Neither were with pain medication. Both were in the hospital (I had planned to give birth at home for both). Second was born in the tub, but I spent time in the tub during transition for both.

I would not chose to be induced, but if it became necessary, of course I would.

And 41 weeks is very early as a 'latest' date for the hospital to let you go. I don't know if it's true, but I've read the average time to give birth for a first time mom is several days after 41 weeks (for those who aren't induced).

DD-just went in and they broke my water and wala, baby. I was 39-2 and 4cm dilated. went into hospital at 4pm, had DD at 11:55pm

DS-I had gels (see the other posts from other people tonight, lol). I was 40-1, contracting horribly for a month, but only made it to a 3. I got 1 dose of gels, got monitored for 20 min, then walked for a bit. Got first dose around noon, had DS at 6:17pm

Both inductions were fine for me. If we have a 3rd, I may or may not request another, depending on what's going on/how I feel. I'm very small, and my kids are all really good sized, and I always have excess water. I also have fibromyalgia, so towards the end I can't move and sit/stand/breathe/blink without being in excruciating pain, lol.

I heard 42 is the lastest they let anyone go, but doc said he isn't gonna let me go much past 41 weeks. I think its because of my GD.

Oh, I was induced with two rounds of Cervidil (12 hours each, I got to go home after each round was inserted, after a lot of testing). I went home after the second round was removed (in early labour), went back the next morning, still in early labour. I was given an IV with antibiotics (GBS+) and a low dose of pitocin, my daughter was born less then 4 hours later.

I found it pretty intense and had to depend on my doula quite a lot (panicked a little during transition when she took a few steps away from me at one point).

I got induced. I went in on a monday morning at 6am..received cervidil (since my cervix was still high and hard) They do cervidil in 12-hour doses. They checked me thruout the day, didnt make any preogress..receievd my second dose around 6pm..was up all night with small painful contractions, got check tuesday morning..no progress. I was sent home to rest. Came back wednesday at 3pm..received yet another dose of cervidil...sometime early thursday morning they came and hooked my up to pitocin..and thats when the fun began. 6am i was hit HARD with contractions..they immediatly came hard and fast. my contraction were 2-3 mins apart ..and thats how it stayed. they upped my pitocin and it became UNBEARABLE. the pain was just horrid..i couldnt stand during them..but sitting made them hurt worse. i was literally screaming to the top of my lungs (and im not dramatic either..i never thought i'd be a screamer in pain..lol) I finally asked for an epidural (i was 110% against getting an epidural) I literally couldnt take anymore tho..i had to wait for more fluid before i could get my epidural..and the wait was rediculous..i begged them to turn my pitocin down, and they finally did..and it helped take the edge off...which is how i know PITOCIN SUCKS ASS! i got my epi around 12:30...then i was happy as a clam. i felt pressure like i had to push, i pushed for 5 minutes or so and out he came at 4:00pm on thursday. I tore pretty good..but didnt feel it thanks to the epi. I felt like death for the next 4 weeks post partum. idk if thats from the epidural, induction, or just birth itself..im pretty sure i effed up my tailbone during delivery..i still get pains. But all in all i dont regret getting induced, because my son was healthy..It wasnt a quick process..but lasted 4 days, which i wasnt expecting. however, i hope to never be induced again. I wouldnt reccommend it to anyone unless they had to be.

With my first I was induced because I got an infection that was leading to sepsis because they had gotten my due date wrong (with both I might add) and he was in there too long. I was due June 27th and I gave birth to a healthy 7.7 lb baby boy June 1st. What they say was my 37 wk mark. With my 2nd I was induced b/c I was in a lot of pain and he was born November 27th 8.3 lb and he wasn't due till Dec. 16th. I had a lot of problems with my first and I have had preterm labor a couple months b4 I was due with both. I am pregnant with my 3rd and I plan on having the baby early as well b/c I do not trust the doctor's with my due dates. I had amniocentesis and steroids with both and they are two very thriving boys. Doctors really can't tell when a baby wants to be born only your body can

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't have that, so I haven't researched the risks, but with any health issue, it can sometimes make everyone feel a little better if the baby is born earlier.
