I'm sure it's different everywhere but it cost my stepdad $3500 to file for divorce. He and my mom were going to be civil but still needed a lawyer to file the paperwork and its a good thing they got one because now their divorce is beyond nasty. Best of luck to you!

In the state where I used to live, I was able to waive filing fees by showing proof I was on food stamps.

If you both are willing and agree to the terms you can go down to the court and purchase the paperwork. The cost for the paperwork will vary but around 50-75. Once you both fill out the paperwork you pay a fee to file. Not sure of the cost in Tx but in Wa it was 350 for my friend to file.

It all depends on where you live. Some states will waive the fee if you make under a certain amount. And some states like here require you take a 12 weeks consualing before you can file for a divorce, to make sure it what you want do.

here you can go to the domestic relations court and get the papers, take the home and fill them out then go file them and it cost $425 to file the papers. i dont know how it is there.

Mine was $785, I hired an attorney to write it up, I served my husband myself, we went over every page together, signed sent to attorney and he took care of the rest.

And, yes. Life gets much better! Its just a dark time right now.
