Toilet training

posted 11th Nov
We decided to toilet train my DD she turns 3 in january. When she goes to daycare she is in knickers all day and uses the toilets there but at home she is stubborn. I ask her every 15 minutes (give or take) if she needs a wee and she gets angry at me and then will wee herself out of pure defiance... Anybody have an tips for us?

Don't push it, she'll know when she's ready and you making her PT will only delay it

she is ready. When wearing nappies she rips them off and uses the toilet, she wont wear a nappy if it has a wee in it and she tells me when she needs to go. Its now that there is no nappies for her to wear she is doing it.

I'd get aggrevated too if someone asked me every 15 minutes if I needed to pee.

If she's using the toilet at daycare, she clearly knows what one is, where it is, and it's purpose.

I'd stick her in undies at home and leave her alone.

My oldest is 21 months. I started with potty training a week and a half ago. I am a stay at home mom so it is a bit different but here is what I have been doing... Let him run around completely naked all day. I am no longer putting a diaper on for naps though I do at night because he wakes up at some point to come sleep in our room and he will pee. I have taken him out without a diaper on and he will stay dry. Though if I put underwear on he will pee. I have read and been advised it may because it feels too much like a diaper. I take him every hour or so unless he indicates he needs to go then I will take him. So far he has had less and less accidents each day.

Since she is in daycare, see what their potty schedule is during the day and try to continue that at home. Every 2 hours or hour, or what ever it may be.

Either way, it will happen when she is ready. My son just happens to get the hang of it at an earlier age than others.

What do you do when she does have an accident at home? If you make a big fuss about it, and go mad at her, it could possibly be an attention thing. Any attention, whether it be good or bad... is still attention. Try just ignoring it. Just clean it up as quick as you can, and don't make eye contact. I'd continue to casually ask if she needs to use the toilet, and if she does use the toilet go way overboard with praise. Clap and dance and cheer. If she does go a couple of hours without using the toilet, I'd take her to the toilet to sit on it. Obviously not if she is going to get upset about it though. Just say to her you think it's probably a good idea to try and doo a wee or something, and that it would make you very happy if she at least sat on the toilet.

well in the last few hours we havent had accidents i have just gone in and told her it time to sit on the potty for a bit, then she goes. We go over board and she gets cuddles and hi-5's (this is her favourite thing at the moment lol). When she has an accident i clean it up then tell her she needs clean knickers on because wet knickers are yuck. I dont yell or anything for accidents i just tell her to get cleaned up basically
