re: Crib bumpers, or no bumpers?

I did with my DD because she was always swaddled and until she was 6 mos old she never got out of the swaddle. When she got older, I contemplated taking it out, but it kept her legs from getting stuck. I would say around the one year mark is when I took it out and then around 2 we switched her to a toddler bed. Totally up to what you feel comfortable with. There are pros and cons to each side.

we did breathable mesh bumpers for the first 13 months then put the padded ones in. he likes to snuggle up close to them.

Thank you all. I have the nursery in 'my' room, so that's why munchkin will be in the crib so early. Since I'm having a c section, I plan on only using the bassinet for a few weeks so I don't have to strain my incision getting out of bed and reaching over the crib edges every time baby gets hungry at night (lord knows I learned that the hard way.)

As most everyone knows by now, it's the larger traditional bumpers that have caused most of this controversary because they don't allow for ANY airflow throughout the crib. With my 3rd child I did hours of research on this subject. Because of this airflow problem, I knew that I wanted some sort of "ventilated" bumper on my crib. I ended up with some ventilated slat bumpers that attach to every two crib slats. I love this set created by Oliver B. it looks adorable, it allows for free airflow and keeps all those little asrms & legs inside the crib. Go on the Oliver B website & watch the YouTube video that demonstrates the airflow difference between traditional & ventilated bumpers. This video is very eye opening.

I personally wouldn't use a thick bumper because of the risk, but I did get one of the breathable ones and it looks cute  

I have heard the same scary stuff about crib bumpers. I would NOT use the mesh breathable ones or the traditional ones. In my opinion they both pose risk because your child's limbs or head can still get caught in between the bumper and crib. I would go with Wonder Bumpers. They are awesome and can be passed down from one sibling to the next. They are beautiful pads that zip up the crib rail and keep your child completely safe. In addition to that they help your infant sleep through the night sooner due to increased flow of oxygen and better sound barriers. My daughter started sleeping so much better since I started using them,
