When your 15 month old has a bronchoscopy done?
Also, how long is recovery time...like how long will she have to lay there? Will they keep her under for awhile after they're done or stop the IV right as they finish? I have no idea what to expect. Thanks.

I sat with a child during a bronchoscopy and his mother was not allowed in the room during the procedure.

The child was inpatient, so he already had an IV placed, but she was not allowed in the room when they sedated him.

for most surgeries they won't let you stay after they fall asleep. I'm not sure about recovery time for that surgery

If you don't mind, can you explain a little more of how they will sedate her? Is it through the IV or why is the IV needed? And recovery time? Thanks..

Yes, it's through the IV. He received Propofol. The medication lasted for about 15 minutes. He was awake almost immediately after the procedure, just groggy. He wasn't allowed to eat for awhile, though. They have to make sure the gag reflex returns before the child can eat,

Do you know why they don't let people be there when you are put under? I know for my c-section they had to put me under because they couldn't do a spinal block on me and my mom wanted to be in the room with me but they wouldn't let her because I had to be put to sleep.

It's probably a liability issue. I don't know for sure, though.

Ahh ok. Yea my mom didn't know either and she's a RN too, but I figured she didn't know because she doesn't deal with that type stuff for work.

Yeah, I don't really either. I prep patient for open heart surgery, and we receive post-stent patients, but I never go in the OR. I couldn't be an OR nurse. I observed an open heart surgery in school and when they split open the rib cage, I nearly fainted.

when my son was 5 months old.
he had a procedure done that took about 3 hours long.
it was an outpatient procedure.

the staff actually let me hold him while they where sedating him. there was a nurse right by my side. honestly it was the worst feeling ever. his body felt so lifeless. It was nothing compared to holding him while he sleeps.
I was allowed because they felt it would be easier for him since he was very young.

that was the only time though.
when he was 6 months old and 11 months old he had a procedure and surgery and i was not allowed to be with him while he was sedated.

Ahh I bet that was traumatizing. I am still traumatized by the sound the ribs of the cat being crunched so we could look at it's heart in anatomy class lol.
