My bet is that the homeowners planned it. The house had been up for sale with no takers. They happened to all be out of the house out of town...I'm thinking they thought that blowing up the house would take care of the "can't sell the house" issue by getting insurance proceeds. No way they thought any other home would be affected...let alone the whole neighborhood being unlivable. My guess is that this is insurance fraud gone horribly wrong. Prayers go out to the families of the victims and to all those who are now homeless.

They're saying it was a gas leak in the home and the furnace ignited it.
The gas company is saying there was no leak though.

But if the people turned the gas on themselves in order to collect the insurance, would it even show up as a gas leak to the gas company?

No, it would show up as usage but the family is saying they had issues with the furnace weeks ago but that they moved back in (I'm assuming they fixed the furnace). They're saying the gas company has been in the area before this and there was no issues.
I'm thinking its something well never know or that the gas company is trying to save their ass. Idk...
We had a gas explosion a few weeks ago here and it was closer....I didn't feel anything. This one was so loud and scary. DH's grandma called to check on us yesterday because she felt it....25 miles away!

That is absolutely insane.

I don't know, I'm inclined to believe the "collect insurance" theory. Especially if it's true that the house has been on the market for a while. Do you know the address to the house this happened to?

But yea...it wasn't the empty house that exploded. It was the family next door. They were out of town.

They're letting some of the families in to gather things. But they only have an hour and are being escorted. They wouldn't let our friend in to board up his house (DH tried to help him).

Yep. I've known him since I was a kid (dated his cousin for 3 years). DH works with him.

So now the story is getting really confusing.

Sunday: Gas company says no gas leak found. DHA says all signs point to a gas leak.
I think yesterday is when the homeowner's ex husband (who did not live there) said there was issues with the furnace (according to the news).
Today: Gas company finds no leak...
Homeowner said there were no issues with the furnace.

There are people working close up claiming a cover up of some sort.
A person reports that he was walking in the area and heard a hiss and saw lights..then BOOM.
The sound was unimaginable.
I don't think a faulty furnace would cause all of this. IDK what to think anymore.

I know this is probably a propaganda post..but I just don't know what to think.

The news said today that even though the gas company is reporting no leaks in the area, that doesn't include the inside of the home. They kind of made it sound like its impossible for the gas company to tell if there was a leak in the home.

In my opinion, that'd have to be one very massive leak that I think would be noticed by the homes usage readings.

It's sad, they are now saying another ten homes might have to be torn down.

The woman is saying she thought she smelled gas but when she came back in from outside, didn't. The said they fixed the issue with the heat, the thermostat. They also asked her if anyone was angry with her and might want to put a bomb in her house (something to that effect). Why would they ask her this stuff if they know it was gas? But I think they're trying to pin it on this poor woman.

I agree with you, I don't see how it could have been a gas leak. It's also, at least in my opinion, not getting near enough attention as something like this normally would.

Something is very fishy.
