Wow, I get 17 weeks before my DD of maternity leave and 52 weeks of parental leave.

And not everyone gets a paid leave at all.

I was shocked to find out that most civilized countries in the world have infinitely better maternity leave than the U.S...we're apparently the only country that expects women back to work as soon as they're healed and back on their feet. And you get paid crap in the meantime...I was told the cap is like $100-some odd a week. Nevermind getting time off to spend with your new child...

After this last election, I seriously considered it!

I love how our president has to fight tooth and nail for things most civilized nations in the world already have...and it works great for them. But everybody here is terrified of change.

That is a great idea... I would have never thought to do that! Great thinking!

That's so sad   we get 14weeks full paid Leave and they're talking about upping it to 26weeks 80% paid leave. And toure entitled to 52 weeks off unpaid. Or if you don't work you get $1200 paid over 8 weeks when baby's born just to help with expenses.
We don't need Insaurance either, and giving birth is free as long as you're a citizen.

That's amazing! Our health care system is so messed up here, and we have a president that's actually trying to reform it and he's getting ripped apart for it...how sad is that?

It really is mind boggling!!
I'd think if a tiny country like New Zealand can look after their citizens healthcare then USA would be able to, unless that's what the problem is, too much money? But the higher population the more tax payers...
I believe there was some talk about our current prime minister making our system more like yours, with needing to have insurance etc.. Which I hope not because it just won't be doable for a lot of families. He won't be voted in again. Ill be very surprised if he is. He's too much for the "rich people" rather than working class families. He gave high income earners a huge tax cut. A person earning 100k a year pays a lot less tax than a family with 2 working parents earning combined 100k (50k each, one 40k one 60k etc) It's bullsmurf. Hes such an smurf.

That's the problem here...the government is for the rich people. Also we have a bi-partisan system that's more interested in opposing each other than they are in doing what's best for the country.
