What does God really have to do with it?

I'm talking about Ted Nugent and this Victoria chick from SNL namely. Nug said we committed spiritual suicide. Victoria said:

Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and Tea Party activist Victoria Jackson expressed sadness over President Obama's win.

Jackson, who accused President Obama of being a communist in 2009, wrote on her Twitter page, "I can't stop crying. America died."

"Thanks a lot Christians, for not showing up. You disgust me," she added in another Tweet. In another Tweet she wrote, "The Democrat Party voted God out and replaced Him with Romans 1. In the Good vs. Evil battle...today...Evil won."

Personally, I think nothing at all because 1. I'm atheist 2. If there really is a God, then god intended for this to happen. Probably because his followers are acting like a bunch whining, racist, hateful, disgusting babies

I'm an atheist too, but I used to be a Christian.

I remember being taught to love our neighbor and that we had no right as mortals to pass judgement on people.

Also:

1 Peter 2:13

New International Version (NIV)

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

Matthew 22:21

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Titus 3:1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

Just saying.

Yeah, but God doesn't make things happen...
He gives us opportunity and choice, , and then we work with that. He allowed us to live, love hate, learn, discriminate, make mistakes. We live and we choose what path we take. God cannot be blamed for the decisions we make, He has just given us the opportunity.
It's the gift of life.

Honestly, I don't think this is a big deal.

It's freedom of speech. Let her believe what she wants.

A lot of people feel as though we are heading down the wrong path as a nation. Never, will we ever, all agree.

Just chalk it up as another difference in humanity and take it as a learning experience...NOT a fight.

Reading all these comments has really got me annoyed. One girl is Ohio idol's top 10 and I hope someone else doesn't take her comments public. To act this way is VERY unchristian IMO. I grew up in churches, lived next to one and went to it with my 2nd grade teacher. She always took the time to explain things the correct way. I do understand a good bit of the bible and have my own opinions on it all. Thanks hex for the verses

Religion and politics just don't mix well... I believe in god.. and I agree that it has nothing to do with each other. When people mix the two, they get high and mighty and judgmental. Disgusts me.

I think its funny. Because I'm a Christian. And definitely a Democrat
I try my best not to judge others and it makes me sick to see someone talking like that. A so-called Christian, no less.
Its been said enough already, but I think we all need to remain united and respect our president, even if some people don't like him.

Regarding #2 in your op... I guess I'm on the other end of things. I am a Christian and I believe things happened for a reason. Unlike the SNL lady, I believe Obama was who God intended to be the leader of the country at this time, but not to punish
Anyone. Heck, there was a reason Bush was in a leadership role, and I don't think it was to punish anyone. I guess I just don't feel it's good to connect leaders to a religion... Sure, some of them ascribe to a religion or beliefs that inform their values, but I don't think that's the only factor. I don't quite understand why some Christians believe Romney was going to carry out their beliefs. There's such diversity among Christians, I just don't think one should say one a certain party is all Christian, and the other isn't. I went to a conservative Christian university and have been told I'm not a real Christian because I don't endorse/support whatever candidate the republicans choose to nominate. The way I decide on a candidate is so much more than that. Some of my conservative friends just don't get it. Yes my life and values are significantly influenced by my religious beliefs, but I also interpret the Bible in a different way than some of them do. I don't judge others. There's a reason why Jesus spent more time with "least among us"-- the lepers, the adulterers, thieves, etc.

I wish people would leave God out of the government.

I really think politics should have a 'don't ask don't tell' policy on religion.

I'm not a Christian, nor have I ever been, but from my understanding no one has the right to judge except God. And, I firmly believe that church and state should always be separate. ALWAYS. it's not freedom of religion if someone else's religion is being forced on you, which is one of the reasons that I believe that gay marriage should he fully legal (that and my mom is gay, but hey).

my aunt used to have a bumper sticker that said "the last time religion ruled the world, they called it the dark ages." I think that's pretty true, because it's just one more thing to cause disagreement and hate.

I agree to an extent.
Though I would prefer to not end up with like, an animal-sacrificing satanist for a president one day

I think the religion of the President and/or candidates is irrelevant. It's what they would do as a leader of our nation that's important.
I mean, a lot of people freaked out about Kennedy being Catholic, and I've heard many, many people refer to him as the "best president we ever had".

Yeah I think that would actually be quite interesting. In my line of work, we can't reveal our religious beliefs to clients, and I know a lot of my classmates from college could not handle that. They said they absolutely had to work with a Christian organization only. Actions speak louder than words ( revealing my Religion), and in a lot of ways, it can really make some clients feel like I'm just another Christian ( or whatever religion) who will judge them. I think it's more about the way you treat others, than necessarily identifying a specific religion. If my clients ask and it's appropriate for the situation, then I tell them. But if it has little to do with our work together, I see no need to declare my religion. It's not going on their treatment plan or in their file.
