what did you do for the lo first birthday?

posted 11th Nov
My lo will be 1 on January 5. So I have Christmas and her birthday very close together. What did you do for your lo first Christmas and birthday? What toys did you buy?

Christmas was small, I don't think we even spent $100. For his 1st birthday I just got him a crap ton of clothes and a few toys. I was super lame, we had just moved so I didn't do anything big. LO's birthday is January 30th, so still fairly close to Christmas.

Oh and toys. We got him a few books, a leap frog drum, a bunch of mega blocks, and honestly I can't remember.

I know, I'm not much help.

So far I bought a bag of plastic bugs, a set of wood blocks, a wood puzzle, one of those peg and hammer things, and one of those stackable color cones. I plan to split them up for both events. But I want some bright colors or something exciting or interesting for her. Something stimulating.

We really went all out. For LO's first birthday party we rented a hall, invited about 200-250 people (all family) and bought decorations and party favors from two different companies. For Christmas, we spent about $200 on stuff - half of which was clothes that he needed.
This baby is only going to be a few weeks old on Christmas, if that, so we're not really buying anything but a couple of cute little outfits, a stuffed animal, and we might pick up a little toy or two.

Dang, I can't go all out like that plus it will be winter and cold. I don't even know 300 people lol

We're not rich or anything, we just saved a really long time to do it and knew that it was something we wanted to do. We both have HUGE families and didn't want to leave anyone out, especially since we don't see a lot of our family members very often. I have 12 sets of aunts and uncles if you include step relatives and DH has 6 (and almost all of my cousins have 2-3 children).

Edit: It's also at a better time, in mid-March. I really don't know what we'll be doing for this kiddo, especially with the weather. It isn't uncommon for us to have several feet of snow and it's not really like we could plan something too far in advance because of it.

None of my family get along so I'm going to have two parties. I'm so nor sure what will Mal her happy. I don't think she cares about any toys. She has so many already.

Do you know a lot of people with kids that you could invite just to have a big playdate? DS has way more fun playing with kids or going someplace special than he does from getting toys.

His birthday is next weekend...but I made him a big toddler size tag blanket..its got the avengers fleece on onside and the back I did red and black checkers made with mink/ cuddle fabric...I made four of the ribbons snap on so he can attach toys to it...it also has a pocket. He LOVES to chew on all the ribbon tags

I'm also giving him a HULK hoody from target ( SO cute) and a couple books and little toddler sized soccer balls.

Were just having a small family and neighbors party...making his cake in a bear shape...balloons and a bubble machine maybe too

My daughter is in a similar situation. Her 1st birthday is on the 20th of Dec. I budgeted her about the same for each occasion. She is the first grandchild so I know our families are going all out. lol. She is obsessed with yo gabba gabba so her party will have that theme. I got her this toy from babies r us called a "ballapolloza" I think?? It's essentially where you drop the plastic balls down these topsy turvy ramps. she will love it lol.

First birthdays are more for the parents than the kids. My daughter will not remember a thing from this birthday. The only reason we are decorating is because we want to cherish the memories and take lots of pictures.

Sounds like the toys you got are perfect!!
