Part of me wants to say everyone should be sexually liberated no matter what their profession but the other part of me says that people in the military--specifically people of higher ranks who are in charge of others--shouldn't be having extramarital affairs because it might indicate an inability to be dependable.

It also looks terrible. I think it's silly that we can't have sex with whoever we want whenever we want but it is what it is and as long as it's this way it's just plain dumb to carry on any kind of affair if you're in the military. If you aren't monogamous then you probably shouldn't be married, especially if you're in a career field that highly values a strong, singular family unit.

It's to protect military morale---you feel more secure if you have a one on one relationship and adding more people always adds more drama. Always! And drama at home takes your mind off your work ---in the military that can and does cost LIVES. So making it against the law prevents MOST people from taking that risk and making their home life more turbulent than necessary. And it makes it less likely that they'll attempt to involve others from the unit in the infidelity and cause unit drama on top of home drama.
