HIV+ and TTC

Stemming from a conversation with a friend. If you knew you were HIV+, would you intentionally ttc? Would you prevent pregnancy? If you wouldn't have biological kids would you adopt? My view, I wouldn't chance pregnancy. I also don't think I would adopt because I would know there was a chance I wouldn't be around long, or be sick often. Thoughts?

I would prevent pregnancy. Assuming my spouse was also +, no I wouldn't adopt either.

if i was in that situation i think i would adopt or just stay how i am before i got prego! and just enjoy my time left wit my son defenitly wouldnt ttc

Honestly, I don't know how i feel because i mean there are medication that can help prevent the baby to get it, but I don't know how i would feel about that. I just pray i never have to deal with that. Would they even let someone would have be sick often adopt? I don't know though.

people can live very long, normal lives now with HIV.

I don't know. I probably would TTC assuming my partner was HIV+ too. The meds they give to HIV+ pregnant women decrease the chance of passing it on to baby by 98%

I wouldn't have children if I knew I was HIV positive.
I wouldn't adopt either.

I very much doubt adoption would even be an option unless it was a private adoption. I would want to have a baby very badly, maybe I'd be selfish enough to try. I'm not really sure.

I couldn't knowingly chance that 2%. I'm a worry wort.

I wouldn't TTC, and I would try to prevent pregnancy. Even though people can live longer these days, I still wouldn't chance it. I wouldn't adopt either.

Some people think its like the plague.

Assuming DH was as well, yes, I would. I have heard about medications and shots that an expecting mother can be given that would prevent the fetus from contracting the disease. Although, I haven't done MUCH research so I can't say for sure.

Personally I wouldn't. But I have also never TTCed and never will. But that is just because having biological kids is not important to me. Though HIV is not as risky as people thing. Women can have children and breastfeed them, and live normal healthy lives.

you just cant BF or anything. it depends on my health and stuff to if i would TTC. id hate to bring a baby into the world only to take a turn for the worst..
idk, i love children so much and to think that just because a certain disease i coulndt enjoy that happines..

maybe its the same with moms with cancer? even though they wont give cancer to their babies..usually.. even though ive heard some cases of babies having cancer when their moms had cancer

The recommendations for breastfeeding have actually changed, it is recommended that HIV pos women do actually bf now.
