could i get pregnant so soon? and bc advice.

posted 9th Nov
I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with.
My LO is 17 days old today, I had a vaginal delivery and I am exclusively breast feeding, no bottles no formula. To my stupidity, I had unprotected sex with my SO last night. I realize my OB said not to have sex for 6 weeks, but hey smurf happens. I'm just so afraid of getting pregnant again. Can I in fact get pregnant so soon after just having a baby? I've been told that ebf gives me a 98% chance of not gettin pregnant. Should I take the plan b pill just to be safe?
please don't bash or judge me.

In the event I find out I did not get pregnant, what is a non-hormonal birth control that you ladies liked?

Thanks in advance for your help, again if your just going to bash me or say something stupid, just move on to the next post please.

we'll then.... I have nothing to say. No Bfing is not 98% effective. You can get on a mini pill or an iud.

Don't feel bad, I had unprotected sex fourteen days after having my son, which was really six weeks of no sex.. I did not get pregnant, but I have heard a lot that you are in fact very fertile.

As for the bc, I've never been on nonhormonal..

You're extremely fertile right now and breast feeding is not a form of birth control. You can in fact get pregnant this soon. Let your body heal.

Exclusive breastfeeding (by itself) is 98-99.5% effective in preventing pregnancy as long as all of the following conditions are met:
  1. Your baby is less than six months old
  2. Your menstrual periods have not yet returned
  3. Baby is breastfeeding on cue (both day & night), and gets nothing but breastmilk or only token amounts of other foods.

I think it is very, very unlikely that you could get pregnant right now. I wouldn't take Plan B, you are not supposed to have estrogen when breastfeeding (it can impact your supply), or at least not in the first several months.

This has great advice and can give you more information on what rules need to be followed to delay ovulation:

I see all the time on this site that 'women are very fertile after giving birth', well, that it only true if the woman ovulates. If she is exclusively breastfeeding, it is very, very unlikely that she will ovulate.

I was not brave enough to use LAM as our method of avoiding pregnancy, we used condoms, withdrawal and the mini-pill (for a while, it had too many side effects so I stopped). I didn't have a period until 9 months after my first was born and 23 months after my second.

Planned parenthoods website says this as well as a form of bc

I EBF my daughter and I use the mini pill. I love it! I set an alarm on my phone so I remember to take it and I haven't forgotten a single pill yet. It hasn't had an affect on my supply, no side-effects, nothing. It's like I'm not even taking a pill!

I had mirena, but it wasn't placed properly and fell out five months later. I randomly bled on it, cramped all the time, got migraines, I hated Mirena.

There's always a chance of pregnancy if you are having sex, protected or not.
