The more I know...

posted 9th Nov
I am learning many new things this pregnancy that I didn't know when I was pregnant with DD. The biggest thing is about fluid levels. I've been having routine ultrasounds because I was induced with DD due to low fluid levels. I have learned that low fluid can be caused by not drinking enough water.

In that case, I feel like they induced me just to do it with DD. I was 36 weeks along. They did an ultrasound at the hospital at just a regular OB appointment and said "your fluid is low, we need to induce you."
Would it have been better if they let me drink some water and hang out a bit, then check again?

I feel so stupid for letting them do all this. There was something wrong with DD when she was born and I still don't know what it is. I am hoping for a much smoother L&D this time and be better educated.

I'm having that problem now. But I'm only 32 weeks so I was told to drink more fluids and now I get NSTs and fluid checks every Monday and Thursday.
Do you know what your levels were? I was told I have 5cm of fluid and under 5 is considered dangerously low.

You had no way of knowing that at the time that's why we depend on medical professionals. You know better now and you can request that you wait a bit after hydrating and see what changes. Don't beat yourself up about something you didn't know about

They didn't even tell me. It might be in my medical records. I watch the way they've been measuring it now. The doctor just said "it looks low". I was doing NST's with DD twice a week and they were always good.

I just feel so stupid because whatever was wrong with DD when she came out may have been caused by an induction that I didn't bother to question.

Well at least you know for this one. I think with the first kid it's easy to want to just trust the doctor and do what they say.
