Alcohol & pregnancy (D&D)

posted 9th Nov
What's your take on drinking during pregnancy? Not heavy drinking. Just a glass of wine, sip (and I mean SIP) of beer, etc?

Just curious. I personally, haven't had a drink during either pregnancies. I know some doctors are okay with a glass of wine every now and then or a sip of beer and some doctors say no way.

My doctor actually recommends a glass of wine once a week. I haven't had any and don't plan on it.

Opinions? Thoughts? Etc?

Why do you say go for it?
Why do you say no way?

I say hell no. It isn't about me at the moment. I don't care how many doctors say its okay. If someone pregnant wants to drink that is on them.

I had half a glass of wine when I was pregnant.

I would think it is okay to have a little wine/beer (( no more than a small glass)) every once and awhile.

I don't think it's ok in anyway, shape or form. They have warnings for a reason. Sure hundreds of people drink or do drugs while pregnant and their baby comes out fine. BUT what about the hundreds that don't? The warnings are because of the one's who were not ok not the ones that were.

Toward the end of my pregnancy I had a few glasses of wine(not in a row) and it helped with my contractions

I didn't and wouldn't feel comfortable drinking while pregnant. I know a few people who did but IMO its just not worth the risk.

I drank red wine while I was pregnant. It is good for your heart and blood, and the babies. I wasnt drunk but if I was eating pasta I had a small glass of wine.

I don't think there's enough conclusive evidence with alcohol and pregnancy, especially in small amounts. We know that large amounts can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, but a small glass every now and then, we just don't know. Now, that being said, I have had small amounts of wine when I was pregnant, never more than a small glass, just because I don't drink often anyway.

I had a glass of wine or a beer once a while during my last pregnancy. Maybe once a week or so the last trimester. My doctor said drinking in excess is what they worry about. She it's fine to have a glass of wine or a beer every once in a while but she recommended waiting until the third trimester.
I haven't had a drink this pregnancy, other than a sip of wine or beer here or there, but I might further into it. My husband and I brew beer and make wine so it's our thing. We beleive its a craft and it's a big part of my life.

This is what my doctor told me! It's good for the heart. I just couldn't remember the reason when I was making this thread.

I say no way. I think of it as hurting the development of my unborn child. Whatever we mothers consume our unborn child consumes. Even just a little could give the baby some kind of health defect and you wouldn't want that to happen. If alcohol can make you feel a certain way, imagine what it could do to a child developing.. My aunt drank while she was pregnant and my cousin was born with alcohol fetal syndrome and till this day suffers health issues. Not only with her body but mentally as well. Alcohol can destroy brain development. IMO I would never, not even if a doctor said a glass a month was okay. If there are different opinions from various doctors I would go with the one safest. Best wishes to you though.

I say in the last trimester a glass of wine or a beer is okay. That's what the docs I work with say too.

I have heard people saying a small glass of wine is harmless

But I have met a women whoSe daughter was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, who says she only had one single drink around 15 weeks or so. Her daughters lungs are not at all developed. She was born at term. She is about 8 months old now. She uses a respirator.

I would never risk it.
