Drug test to be on welfare

What is your view on this? Do you think it should be a requirement in all states?

I don't and never have done any drugs, I am also a Christian...BUT I think this is a little unfair. I don't know all the rules about it (if you wish to inform me, please do so) but I think everyone should receive help when they need it. What if someone wants to get clean? What if that person if an addict but has children to take care of? There would be the case in which an addict could be an unfit parent but what if it was just marijuana, will it prevent you from getting help? I understand why people can see this as a good thing but I don't think it is, the number of homeless people will probably increase and crime rate as well.

I just think that being an addict is an illness and instead of denying them from welfare, they should offer more help.

Thats good! If your an addict why abuse the system too. I am all for it.

It think its great should have happened a long time ago hopefully this will trickle over to Canada too

ALSO it's going to end up costing the taxpayers that give all of these smurfs MORE than it would be to give these people assistance. Do people not realize how much drug testing costs???

I think its a good idea. Yes, being an addict is a sickness, but if they didn't spend their money on drugs, they would be able to provide for their families. JMO

I've smoked Marijuana before I found out I was pregnant but now I am not and will not be continuing that lifestyle. I think people should get tested to be on welfare. If you have enough money to buy drugs, you have enough money to buy the necessities or at least some things you need to live. Even pot is expensive I remember smoking it everyday and I would waste my whole weeks paychecks on it. I was terrible.

I really don't have any positive or negative feelings regarding drug testing welfare recipients. Yeah, it's great and all that but drug testing is expensive. I've had to pay anywhere from $30 to $200 for government drug tests. But I see the potential benefits.

But welfare should be temporary, our gov't should be helping people get better not worse. If all assistant is cut, they will fall deeper in the whole because an addict will find a way to satisfy their addiction.

i think its totally necessary to drug test someone before letting them go on welfare. still bothers me to see all these people driving really nice cars and wearing really expensive clothing trying to get food stamps and such.

Yea they DID try it here in FL, but it didnt last more than 4 months or so. Turned out to be a bigger waste of money than it was worth.
