re: Drug test to be on welfare

Oh but don't forget, people dont spend money on drugs

I think it's a colossal waste of money. Ineffective.

I think it's dumb. It's sterotyping people to be drug users when the vast majority doesn't use, and the vast majority aren't addicts. I am all for the legalization of all drugs.

But seriously, let's say someone DOES spend 20 bucks a month on weed. You are dictating a NON ADDICT what they should do. Addicts should get help.... keyword HELP. But 20 bucks on weed isn't signifying an addict. So 20 bucks a month on weed and you want to cut off benefits? But spending 20 bucks a month on a trip to the movies is okay....

Or are we going to play the game of "If you are on state assistance you shouldnt get ANYTHING extra that's fun!" ? ? ?

My Mom is on food stamps. She gets medical marijuana... it's not nationally recognized as medicine. So the money she spends on that... should she be cut off because it's a "drug?"

Waste of money.

I HATE when people say "I have to take a drug test to work, but they don't have to take one to get welfare that I pay for with ~omg-muh tax dollllars~. Employers pay to drug test their employees. Drug testing for welfare would just take up more of your precious tax dollars. And really, I don't see how it can be effective at all... I had to be drug tested to get my job, but I still smoke weed. I just quit long enough to pass the test. People that do drugs would just a) quit long enough to pass the test to get on welfare, then start right back up when the money comes in, or b) not apply the same way someone that does drugs and can't quit long enough to pass a test isn't going to apply for a job somewhere they know drug tests to get hired. Sure, you might weed out a few people that think they can cheat the test, but fail, but the cost of testing far outweighs the money they'd save denying welfare to those few that don't pass and it doesn't seem practical to me.

Waste of money. They tried it here & it was expensive & the majority of people passed. I think an overhaul of the whole system is ideal. Cut out all of the junk food they allow for starters.
We need to bring people back down to reality of what really is a want vs a necessity.

Is it just welfare that they are testing for or all forms of assistance?

this. and it wasn't for food assistance, it was only for those who received cash assistance. also i think some guy sued bc it was unconstitutional but that may have just been a rumor.

I dont see what the big deal is. If you dont have nothing to hide then there is nothing for you to worry about. Is not like they are telling you to strip butt naked to test you. Are they?

If the state is reimbursing people for their tests, and only those that fail have to pay for their test... and the vast majority ARENT failing.... the state is losing even more money. Its dumb.

Plus, someone could be just as irresponsible with alcohol. And yet it's legal. Wait.... are people going to say they can't drink if they are on assistance too????

So wait you are saying that you are okay with people like that? They need to do what they have to do to crack down on people who are abusing the govt. By doing this it will have people open up their eyes that try to come up free money to be used the wrong way. Lol I am all for it.

I think this is a great idea and people should continue to be drug tested while on welfare as well, not just to get on it.
