Carseat placement question-need help!
posted 9th Nov
We have a Toyota Venza and right now my son is behind the passenger seat in his Britax Frontier 85. We are due in February, where should the Frontier go and where Gould the infant seat go? And would it change once she is in a convertible? We plan on ERFing her as long as possible. I think since we have a smaller SUV and my sons seat is so big that neither one would fit in the middle so does it matter which seat is where if eah seat has to go on a side? Thanks for any and all help!

i would put the baby in the middle if it works. but if it doesnt work that way id put the baby behind the driver. Thats what ive always done anyways.

The person who just helped us set up our car seat told us the safest child goes on the side and the other in the middle. So if one is FF they go in the middle cause they could use the extra protection and the RF child on the side.
If they are both RF then the baby goes in the middle

And what if the back seat isn't wide enough for a seat to fit in the middle? I'm really wishing we hasn't gotten rid of our highlander. My sons seat doesn't rf and I'm not sure which convertible we will choose for the new baby but probably the Britax marathon if it will fit rf comfortably

If nothing can fit in the middle put baby behind driver. I have an acadia and the 2nd row is captains seats so i have no option for middle so my baby will be on the edge and my second youngest will be on the other side, my oldest in the very back.

For some reason my husband wants to move my sons seat behind the driver and put the infant seat behind the passenger but I'm not sure on his reasoning why he thinks it should be done that way. I think I would prefer the baby behind the driver because it would be more convenient for me but either way I just want what's safest and will fit

Wow...I totally missed that sentence in the OP lol, sorry.
Ok well when I asked on the FB group which side to put DD on there was a big argument but the general agreement was that there's not enough of a difference in safety for it to matter.
I thought the britax was a wide one? Maybe I'm mistaken.

Ok I just wasn't sure if it mattered the placement if a seat had to go on each side but the most convenient for me would be to have the baby behind the driver

Haha that's ok it was sort of rambly and all over the place
My sons Britax is very wide but I haven't really looked into convertibles for the new baby yet. I just want to make sure it will fit rf comfortably especially of its behind the driver seat because my husband is pretty tall

If I had to chose for myself, I would put the smaller carseat behind me. If I have a big car seat behind me and have to push the driver seat forward, that may not be as safe since I would be crunched and not as good of a driver.

That could very well e my husband reasoning for why he wants the new seat behind the passenger because I am normally the driver but when we drive as a family he always drives

I find it easier having my oldest behind me. If my youngest (RF) needs something I can usually hand it to her (which I couldn't do if she was directly behind me), I also find it easier to see her in the baby mirror. When I get out of the car I unbuckle my oldest and he walks to the other side with me to get the baby out...that way im not walking back and forth. I guess it also depends on how old your oldest is.

Lol, yeah I never let him or anyone drive me for that matter....I have control issues and he likes to read, so it all works out in the end lol

Due in February and my son will be 3.5 when the baby is born. Both ways make sense for different reasons lol

I was just reading and apparently its safer to have them behind the passenger because if you are parked curbside you are getting the baby on on the curb and not where traffic is driving by, also if you were to get in a collision nad the seats recline its more likely that the drivers seat will recline back most because chances are there wont be anyone in the passengers seat to bear the weight to make it go back. Something like that.
I just feel like crashes most often happen on the passenger side. Like everytime you make a left turn if you were to get hit it would be the passenger side.
Its a tough call cause you cant predict what side you will ever get hit on if at all. I just find it most convienant behind me.
