Life Partners Who Aren't - And Never Will Be - Lovers

Interesting article on the increasing popularity of "single by choice" parents deciding to coparent with one another. They meet over websites like Momdaily and decide to raise a child together in a non-romantic relationship. Honestly if I SO and I ever broke up (knock on wood) then I'd probably rather pursue this route than get into another relationship. Not c/p-ing the article because it's ridiculously long lol

What do you think of it? Anyone on here ever done something like that?

My dad and "stepmom" - the woman he has been with for 16 years don't live together, they are best friends, and they raised all of us kids together. They swear that they don't sleep together (and I've never even seen them kiss really) because it goes against their beliefs of marriage.

I guess that is kind of the same thing....

Sometimes I feel like it'd make life a lot easier to have and raise a baby with a close friend rather than deal with the relationship drama.

Like no relationships at all? Outside of the co-parenting?. I can't. I can live single for a good long time but eventually I'd need to cuddle up to a warm body at night

When I was really young, my dad did his oversea deployment in Japan for 18 months. During that time, my mom lived with another wife who was alone with her son. (both of them were very young as well, around 20).

They had a regular schedule and split up everything such as, cooking, cleaning, bathing kids, bedtime, time alone, etc.

My mom swears to this day that was the best parenting relationship she ever had  .

I think if it came down to it and SO and I stopped working, I'd rather be a single mom than to buddy up with someone to help me raise my kid.

It's not talking about buddying up with someone to raise a child you already have, it's more about conceiving a child with someone you don't have a romantic relationship with. Pretty much like a single mom who conceives through ivf or whatever raising the child with her sperm donor.

Ah, gotcha. In that case, I still don't think that's something I'd like to try. I wouldn't do that now, because I only want one kid. But if I didn't have LO, I still wouldn't do it. Just because I am one of those people that works better alone. Even with SO, I love him, he's a good dad, but it's hard getting on the same page with someone else. Romantic relationship or not. I do see how some people would chose to do that and it be really beneficial to them though.

If DH and I ever broke up (god forbid!) I would want to do this too. I just can't see myself wanting to be with anyone but the father of my children and I would feel weird about bringing another man around them...

I think although it is still fairly uncommon it is on the increase and people are becoming more aware of it. There is a growth in people who have absolutely no desire whatsoever to become involved in a romantic relationship, they want to remain single for the rest of their lives but they have a friend who they would be happy to have and raise a child with with.
