Experience with Fetal Monitor Transducers

posted 9th Nov
Hello -
My name is Carlos Davalillo and I am a MBA student at HBU (Houston Baptist University) in Texas.
My team and I are doing a research project on Fetal Monitor Transducers and monitoring. We are mainly focused on experiences/issues with the "Hockey puck + belt" equipment. What were your experiences? How often did the nurse have to move the monitor? Were you comfortable? Anything else you are able to add is appreciated. These research will attempt to find ways to ease the delivery process and make it as stress-free as possible.

I HATED them. If I would move even a little bit it would lose my daughters heartbeat, I had to be stuck in one uncomfortable position for a long ass time, it was hard to sleep and it just over all sucked. Also my nurse was ALWAYS coming in trying to fix it and find my daughters heartbeat again.

They suck.
Mine didn't pick up my contractions even when I was in transition and they were back to back.
They nurses messed with them like every 30 minutes and they still didn't really work.
They lost DD's heartbeat while I was pushing and she passed meconium (sp?) And she could've died.

Someone needs to make some thing more efficient.

They used an internal monitor the last half of my labor, where the attch a monitor to the baby's head. I think that worked a lot better but it only works if your water is broken of course.

My water was broken.
They never suggested that

Did you feel that the internal monitor was invasive?
What would you all change about the procedures? What do you all believe could have been done better?

Thank you all for the replies

I wish they would have taken it more seriously that they couldn't find my daughters heartbeat for an hour when I was pushing.
I wouldn't have minded an internal monitor.

Well it hurt when they put it in because I was only 1cm dilated, but I was much more happy with it because I could move freely and I didn't have to worry about it losing my daughters hb.
