so confused...

posted 9th Nov
Long Story short. A nurse at my OB got me confused with another patient. She had me completely upset before I ever went back to a room. After waiting an hour to see doc cause the one patient was having tons of issues and was needing to be deliever asap.

I got some confusing news. My blood pressure was high 120/84. Not normaly high for a normal patient. But my whole pregnancy and life my blood pressure is never over 100/60-68. So they are going to watch it he gave me a list of things to do. Then I'm also meausring several weeks early. He wouldnt tell me tho. He said if I'm still measuring ahead in two weeks and blood pressure is still high they will do an ultrasound. My question is what do they do if both are off still? With my second My fluid was increased and they delivery her at 36 weeks due to her heart rate going low. I've never had a history of pre e with my pregnancies.

Sounds like hypertension, not pre-e. If it doesn't get worse, they'll just keep an eye on it. If it does get worse than they will induce and if you don't progress, csection. This is my experience. Might not be the same for everyone.

I asked the doc several questions and he just went over the signs of pre e and said watch for swelling, increase your water, rest on either side twice a day once in morning and once in evening for atleast 15 minutes. He said it could be due to the one nursing make me upset.

I've been induced before and both of those went great. I'm just confused on why he wouldnt tell me how many weeks I was mesauring ahead. I know two weeks either way doesnt matter. So why couldnt/wouldnt he tell me how many weeks?

Because it's not always accurate- if you didn't have an ultrasound, I'm assuming he told you you were measuring ahead after measuring your belly? Highly, highly inaccurate. An ultrasound is more reliable, though those aren't 100% accurate either.

He said he would do an ultrasound in two weeks if I'm still measuring big. He felt and pushed and said baby was head down which she's been sense 28 weeks. Said she didnt feel like a large baby. He said roughly feeling 4 pounds but that was just a rough guess by felling. I just think its odd with all the secrets this time. I'm high risk I have been the whole pregnancy. Do you think he just didnt tell me the answer to my questions so I dont worry?

No- I think he cannot give you an accurate answer. If he tells you one thing and is wrong, he looks like an idiot.

I don't think that you are at the pre-e stage yet. Sounds more like hypertension. I was very obviously undiagnosed pre-e when I left the hospital with my son my blood pressure was 185/101. The nurses all kept commenting on how puffy i was from all the fluid at my appointments but never did anything. I ended up being readmitted to the hospital the day after I left b/c of it. I wouldn't worry too much about you BP b/c thats pretty normal. And as far as your weeks thing they can be off so easily so your doctor probably just wants to wait until he is more certain. Just stick to the list of things he has told you and take it as easily as you can. And if you want (this is what I do) whenever i'm in town (walmart or wherever) I used the blood pressure machine and check mine there for some peace of mind.

Thanks for your response. I guess that makes sense. Still a little frustrated tho that even my simply questions he wouldnt answer. Like how many weeks does it show I"m measuring? He just changed the subject. Which is totally not like him. He normal answers any of my questions.

Get a tape measure that shows centimeters and have someone measure you- the amount of centimeters from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus is what your estimated weeks are.... like I said though, it's definitely not always accurate. The biggest I ever measured I think was like 34 weeks- my babies were full-term and normal size.

Thanks. I figured I'd check it. I did tell my husband I dont feel puffy my rings still fit. My feet are a little swollen nothing major tho. He did say that my blood pressure was out of normal range for me. But they would run test in two weeks if things were the same.

How can measuring be so off? What can cause it to be off?

They told me that my 2nd child was going to be too small....I was induced on my due date. My son came out nearly 8lbs. And they tried to tell me even after they weighed him he was small. I'm sorry but they made themselves sound like idiots. An almost 8lb baby is by no means "small". My first was only 6lb 13 oz and no one ever said anything about him being "small". I guess my point is that medicine isnt an exact science and since every woman grows differently during pregnancy and so does every baby, all they can really do is make an educated guess. I have been measuring as much as 2 weeks off this whole pregnancy. My first due date was feb 24 and now its march 8th. And now my ultrasounds are showing me further along again. I told them I didnt care what date they wrote on their chart b/c my daughter will come out when she's ready no matter what their paper says.

I've measured right on all along expect one time I was two weeks ahead. That was at 20 weeks. they did the normal anatomy scan and everything was fine. All three of my ultrasounds have show me do within days of my period due date. Then this time bam I've gain 10 pounds in 3 weeks eating the same as always. And now measuring weeks ahead. They told me two weeks either way didnt matter. So appearantly its atleast 3 or more weeks.

I'm sure DD will come when she is ready. I guess I'm kinda fearing the worse cause this pregnancy has been wonderful with no issues as where my other two were horrible and that is why I'm high risk with this baby

With every pregnancy your belly is different. My first i didnt even have a belly until after 6 months and everything was fine with my baby and she was born on her due date. This time I'm 17 weeks and look like I did at 22 weeks but still everything is normal so measuring is less accurate than an ultrasound cuz your ouside can be decieving to what is actually inside. And I'm a tiny person as is I weighed 118 before this preg. And I now weight 124. Last time I weighed 115 before and day I gave birth I weighed 171 lol. But gained most of it in the last 2 and a half months. Hopefully this time I don't gain so much but with me already looking bigger than I did last time I'm afraid I might. But I wouldn't stress about it that will just raise your blood pressure more and make them more concerened so I'd relax and just take it a day at a time.
