Got an x-ray today that showed i have 3 impacted wisdom teeth and one of them is growing completely sideways into another tooth  . I thought the pain was from a hole in the tooth it's pushing into. I'm in so much pain that it puts me in tears. I thought it sucked to have to pay $300 to get one normal tooth removed but getting 3 wisdom teeth taken out is probably going to cost thousands. I have to get it done though because i can't stand this pain much longer.

Anyone here had a wisdom tooth removed before? I've heard sometimes they put you to sleep to do it. I've had a tooth pulled before but getting 3 at the same time done is going to suck! I'm going to live on soup lol (which i'm pretty much already doing because it hurts to chew anything) If you have had one or more removed how long does it take to heal? and how bad is the pain after getting it removed?

I got all 4 removed at once.

They put me to "sleep" but I wasn't completely out of it, I could heard everything and see a little bit, and I felt when they took one out.
Afterwards I looked like a chipmunk, and had to go to the ER because my body didnt respond well to the mixture of pain meds and anesthesia.

I was able to eat but only in small small bites and tried to just chew with the front teeth and sallow fast.
The pain lasted about 5 days or so.

I had my 4 wisdom plus 1 removed all at once. I could have stayed awake, but I chose to be put out. Best decision ever. Mine were broken and half gone, but had a couple had to be dug out. I really didnt feel anything the first day, but then for about 3 days after that it hurt like hell. The pain meds were my best friend.

I had all 4 of mine extracted at once. I was out, I don't remember a thing from the surgery. The day I had it done, the pain wasn't too bad, but it was pretty awful for a few days after.

i had all of mine removed 2 years ago because they were all impacted, and infected, and caused me to have an infection in my throat. they put me under, gave me lots of pain meds, when I woke up I didn't feel anything. Two hours later I was crying in pain and the medicine didn't work until an hour later. I had to take more meds before the other one wore off so I wouldn't be buckled over in pain. It sucked so bad the first three days. Then it started to heal and not bleed, and I could eat warm soup and such. Hope yours goes better than mine did!

Ugh that's what i'm dreading most, the pain afterwards. That and being sick from the anesthesia if i do get put under.

$300 to pull a tooth? Do you not have insurance? I have had 2 teeth pulled in my lifetime. The first one cost about $150 b/c I didnt have insurance, and the 2nd one only cost $33 b/c at that point I did. Dental work is obviously crazy expensive b/c they know a person can only suffer so much before having to get it done....I hope you get yours fixed soon....My teeth had cavities from childhood in them that my parents never had the money to fix, so I know what its like to be miserable...

Yeah i don't have private health insurance just medicare and they don't cover dental work i don't think (last tooth i got pulled was $300 and SO looked up prices online for the wisdom teeth and it looks like minimum 2k for 3, going to start calling around for quotes tomorrow). I thought medicare might cover impacted wisdom teeth but i think it's like a 1 or 2 year wait plus you have to be on government assistance for that which i'm not.

I had all 4 pulled at once. Was wide awake for it just super numbed up. Only one was impacted and that was the one that hurt so bad when they were taking it out, the other 3 I didnt feel at all. By the second day I was eating regular food again just very carefully.

I *THINK* medicaid covers dental. I know its a different program, but you would think since medicaid does (if it does) that medicare would too. I would at least call the number on your card and ask, the worse they can say is no.

Yeah i might try to call them but i'm pretty certain they only cover dental if you have a chronic illness or are on centrelink. My SO's sister got hers out without paying by going to the hospital when the pain medication stopped working (hers were infected though so it was an emergency) We are prob just going to have to suck it up and pay it. It'd be good to do a payment plan but i'm not sure if they'd do that most places want cash upfront. Just sucks with christmas/my daughters birthday coming up.

Dentists around here use a thing called care credit. Its like a credit card that can only be used at medical places. The payments are low and dont usually start until 30 days after your procedure. So you should ask when calling around if thats an option for you. That 30 days could at least put your first payment due after christmas.

I don't think we have anything like that in Aus but i will be asking all of them if they can do a payment plan. Stupid bloody teeth, i just can't wait until it's all over with and the pain is gone.
