Diapers

posted 8th Nov
My sister cloth diapered for her children and sent me 12 really nice all in one cloth diapers. The babysitter I plan on using after the baby is born has made it clear that she is not interested in using cloth diapers while my daughter is in her care. So, I have a couple of questions, if I'm going to be cloth diapering part-time, are 12 diapers enough? or should I get a few more? Also, I don't have a lot of money to spend on disposable diapers so I was wondering how well the no name brand (target or walmart) of diapers hold up?

I loved Target brand, they were like pampers IMO.

Walmart brand were stiff as cardboard.

If you are using AIO diapers, they should be super simple for a babysitter to use, just put em on and take em off. Instead of throwing them out, toss them in a pail. Scrape them when you get home.

But, the Parents Choice diapers sucked for us. Our kids all leaked out of them. No help on the Target brand, but I've heard good things about them.

ETA: 12 diapers might be tough, even with washing everyday. Little ones go through them like crazy at the first! I'd recommend looking into covers with prefolds, cheap and easy!

We CD and anytime someone wants to watch DS, they use cloth or they don't get him. Personally, I would find a new babysitter, but that's just me.

Why won't the babysitter diaper your child the way you want?

I can't see how using cloth is any different for your sitter with the exception of putting it in a bag instead of the garbage. There is otherwise, literally, no difference. But aside from that, we order nature baby care diapers because they are free of all additives potentially harmful to baby's skin, made from corn and completely biodegradable. The only sposies my kids' skin didn't react to.

Because she says it's too much work for her...I would find another babysitter or a daycare if I could but I can't afford it. She is a good friend of mine and has agreed to help me out. I'm going to be a single mom so unfortunately my options are limited

Should I try to get more cloth diapers just in case or is 12 going to be enough?

I would still try and find someone else....or show her exactly how you use cloth. It's not like she is doing the laundry or has to touch anything. there really is no difference. She probably just thinks there's more to it than there actually is. I would hate to use disposables, since you won't know if baby will have a reaction, or which brand works well, etc. Plus they can get a rash if they aren't used to it, and it makes life a lot harder on baby and you.

Personally I'd want about 18.

That's really smurffy that you're having to dish out the extra cash on disposables, because she's too lazy...imo, I'd try to find a new sitter, or tell her that if she won't do it the way you want, then she can bring her own diapers.

pamper's or IF we decide to cloth diaper, We'll use G-diapers when away from home. They are biodegradable and flushable.
