Glad someone kind of understood what I was trying to get out. I still can't find that quote, I'm starting to second guess whether or not it was CS Lewis, but it sounded like something he'd say, lol.

I pretty much believe that. I do believe we choose certain conditions before birth such as who we will be born to and other situations but ultimately we can have any experience based on choices, beliefs, and thoughts.

I seriously doubt I would've picked my parents if I had the choice.

I did not mean God planning on what we choose to do or be but rather when certain things happen in our lives good or bad people will say it was God's plan and I hear that a lot.

bc some people lay their problems in "god's" hands and don't take the responsibility for it. Some churches teach them, lay your burdens at "his" feet... or have faith "he" will solve all your problems. I have a hard time believing that some perfect "god" thing would knowingly create suffering for some people, losing houses, jobs, m/cs, illnesses, etc. and not others.

Right. And I believe that depending on the choices you make in life, God has a plan for you. So yes in a way, he's got a plan for you. But it's not so black and white, cut and dry. It's not like he just says "Okay and dumping a bankruptcy on you and a child with cancer now. ....And go!" But there are things along whatever path you take that happen to you. And those are God's plans for you based on what you chose.

Aha! This isn't exactly as I remember it, but I think I may have found part of it, if anyone cares...

“If God 'foresaw' our acts, it would be very hard to understand how we could be free not to do them. But suppose god is outside and above the Time-line... You never supposed that your actions at this moment were any less free because God knows what you are doing. Well, He know your tomorrow's actions in just the same way--because He is already in tomorrow and can simply watch you. In a sense, He does not know your action till you have done it: but the moment at which you have done it is already 'NOW' for Him.”

I believe a lot of people feel that way but I believe when we are in spirit we don't perceive through the human consciouness and have no fear of the bad things we will experience because we know it is only tempoarary and our soul selves cannot be harmed in any way.

So, even though it's temporary we would choose to go through momentary hell for what reason?

That makes no sense.

I believe God has a plan for my life, and it is up to me to choose to follow and let him guide me. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." The international version is "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I like both versions, and I believe he knows the plans he has for me. But just like any other plans, sometimes they don't go exactly accordingly.

I agree with you. I don't think God plans anything, I think our souls have more "say" over what we go through.

And what's up with your threads always attracting so many people who don't believe in God?

Do I believe a delusion, a thing that simply doesn't even exist plans our lives? No.

I'm agnostic, so I don't really care either way.

But I could never understand the idea that God would have a plan for us when I was a Christian. Our pastor always told us that God knew what we would do before we were placed here. How, then, could he then have a plan for us other than the path we follow up until death? That would insinuate that it's his plan for the people who go to hell to go to hell, and that we really don't have a choice or free will in the matter. It's like a football coach knowing that the people he chooses for his team can never ever win. Why would he say that he has a plan that will make them all winners if he knows before hand that they truly honestly will not win? But, eh.
