When will you let your child???
posted 29th May
I know I am many years away from this, but I am wondering when you think you will let your child do body modifications other than a single piercing in each ear. It could be as small as a 2nd hole or even stretching their ears. My husband and i both have our ears gauged, love tattoos, and i have currently 8 piercings, but I am not finished yet. Growing up I was not allowed any other piercings than my first hole. I got my belly button pierced right before I graduated and had to hide it. I don't want that for my kids, but I also do not want my daughters getting their second holes when they are 5! What are your thoughts?

Mysonhas one ear pierced & wants the 2nd one done for his 6th birthday , but I told him he had to wait until he was 16 to get that done . But I got my nose pierced at 13 ..... so I will probably let him do it sooner .

I think there's peircings to a certain extent. I have 7 peirceings. All in my ears. I have3 cartilidge (sp?) , my first and second hole. I'm getting my nose peirced, a few tatoos, and I am done. I don't much like anything else, so I will be a little strict on what my daughter gets. But once she turns 18, she will be allowed to do whatever she wants.

I got my ears pierced when I was 5, and double pierced when I turned 16. Honestly if they want their ears double pierced I'll probably say 16, it would be a good birthday present.
No tattoos for my kids, either! They might sneak behind my back and do it but I wouldn't be happy.

me and my hubby had this dicussion. With a boy if he wants his ears peirced we will let him to do it whenever he asks. Besides that with a boy we agreed that we will most likely tell him to wait until he is 18. If i have a girl we are going to get her ears periced when she is still a baby and if she wants more on her ears i think it is fine. We said she would have to wait until atleast 16 to get her belly periced and anything else she would have to wait until she is 18.

well, I'm not sure about when I would let my girls, but they can if they want. We are the same way. My hubby has tattoos up and down both arms, I have my navel pierced and two tattoos, so it's not like we can really say no, right? I did mine gradually though. I got my second holes when i was 14. My cartilege (sp) pierced when I was 17, my first tattoo when I was 18, my navel when I was 19 and now my second tattoo at 26. I would at least (especially for something as permanent as a tat) wait until they can decide on something rational that they won't end up regretting. I've heard of quite a few young teens getting tattoos that they later regretted. Sorry if I wasn't much help. I guess I just felt like rambling. LOL

My son is almost eleven and I told him that...if he wanted to pierce his ear he would have to wait until he was 13. Any other (tatoos or piercings) he would have to wait until 18. I just don't want him to regret it later.

tattos i want them to wait till they are at least 17 ears i don't much care but i don't like the whole bigger whole thing. YUCK! jmo. and i dunno if that goes back that easy but i assume no and you can't hide that

i was1 yearfor my ears (single holes) 12 for my second holes and one cartlidge and my belly button. 13 for my second cartlidge, 15 for my third holes, 16 for my tounge. 17 for my first tattoo. so really, its up to what you think is right

I pretty much agree with you.

My son(s) will NOT be allowed to get their ear(s) pierced.

i think 16 is a reasonable age. since DJ and i both have tattoos, we decided that if our son wants a tattoo, we would let him, IF he is doing well in school. a little inscentive... ? (sp)

I would say other than the single or double ear, wait until about 14. Then mabey the classics like a nose ring or belly button or the cartlidge ear piercings. Anything other than that I would say wait until they can give their own consent and don't need your permission.

Mu hubby is covered in tats and I have 5 so far. We both have our ears and noses pierced and both HAD our eyebrows pierced at one point and I had my belly done when I was 14. I don't think I would encourage it by any means but it's not the end of the world. What can you we really do if they come home with a new "accessory"? Make them take it out? They'll do it again.

as far as peircings go - got my ears done when i was 7 (good age I think, If your not going to do it when their born), belly button at 14 (I had to wait till then) and was not allowed to get my tounge peirced (by my dad) but my mom took me when i was 16. And had to wait till I was 18 to get tattoos. I would say no more than one hole in each ear until they are 16 or 18, I know alot of people who did it when they were 12 and 13 and wish they wouldn't have gotten them at all because they don't use them anymore after that phase is gone.
