i dont consider anxiety medication "psych meds" ...

if she needs it, then the obvious answer should be... try it.

why would she be afraid of being "bashed"... ?????!

If it's a temporary solution and they have already tried other means of helping her cope but they haven't worked I'd go ahead and put her on the meds...there's nothing wrong with taking medication when it's actually NEEDED....i wish your friend and her LO the best of luck.

If the medication will help her, then why not.

Never......I dont care how bad it is. You can treat in a natural way to deal with stress and anxiety, Way better.

My nephew is 13 now and been on them since 2-3 yrs old and it has messed up his body so much.

DD is 10 and they said she needs them, never in a million years when she turns 12 and can make the decision herself then so beit, but so far therapy and natural stratgies have done her and myself wonders.

which med? as long as it's watched and monitored very well it could help her control her anxiety until she can learn some coping skills. BUT please tell her to watch out I used to work in an inpatient child mental health unit and so many of those kids were overmedicated and couldn't even function because they were so doped up. Also make sure it's the right med. Many times they try to give kids meds they were never approved for the use of or they use a med. for an off label reason. I'd triple check with a pedi, psychologist, and psychairist to make sure if I were her

hahahahha oh so true!

you should NEVER be afraid to ask a question about your child... especially when you want advice about a health question... to be scared to be "bashed" is just childish and super immature. grow a backbone and support your kiddo!

If she's been in therapy and still getting worse, then I'd say yes. But I would do it with the thought in mind that it's a temporary thing. To help her at least be able to manage while trying to develop better coping skills so eventually she doesn't need them as much, if at all .

If it can help I'm all for it.

My son is on risperdal which lots of people told me I shouldnt put him on it but its helped tremendously. He has zero side effects like I was worried about(him turning into a "zombie")

I had awful anxiety growing up, starting at the age 5. I would be in the nurses office almost daily with stomachaches and headaches because of my anxiety(though I didn't realize that young that it was anxiety related). I would also pee my pants ALL the time.
My mom refused to get me any help, guess she thought I would outgrow it. I never did. I have actually been hospitalized twice for severe anxiety.
I am 100% sure that if I would have gotten help(medication)at the first onset of my anxiety that I would be a total different person today and back then too.
I say she should all she can to help her child, if it's medication, it's medication.
Good luck to your friend and her LO!

that's awesome, im glad he's doing well!

you dont know what is going to help, and what the potential side effects are until you try. you owe it to your child to try to make them better. :-)
