need ideas.. for thanksgiving.. crock pot?

posted 8th Nov
So, every year that we've beenliving together I make a mini- thanksgiving dinner for my SO the day before because with his work schedule (shift work) he is ALWAYS off that Tues & Wed then works thurs- thanksgiving from 2p-10p and doesnt get to go to the family dinners, usually there isnt much left-overs for me to bring home for him. Ive made a whole turkey via Oven for the past 4yrs, the first one was terrible (first time i EVER made a turkey) then second was OK, third & fourth were a little better...... but this year, i want something different. I will be working 8a-4p that wednesday, i was hoping i could do the 'prep work' the night before and have it slow cook in a crock pot all day while Im at work?
Someone i know has a 'Thanksgiving Sandwhich crock-pot" reciepe but its sliced lunch meat turkey, boxed stuffing, corn, cheese and served on rolls w/ cranberry sauce. I want to make it better- but am unsure if i can combine everything to cook in the crock-pot? say..... real boneless turkey breast, real stuffing, add potatoe or sweet potatoes in there somehow, corn and possibly green beans as well then will serve on biscuits?

So basically throw up on a biscuit?

Why do these family dinners not even have a plate leftover for him? If my Husband works on Thanksgiving they (my family) at least say "hey, make S a plate". I mean, are people that hungry where you are or what?

its not supposed to be mushy when done, theres not alot of liquid in it.

he gets a plate from his dads/his side of the family but its not the same as having dinner at your own house and having left-overs for days...

Fix him a plate before people start eating. If M was away for Thanksgiving, that would be my first thought.

Maybe you could make a Thanksgiving Shepherd's Pie, just not in the crock pot...and minus the cranberry sauce on it. Maybe just keep the cranberry sauce on the side?

It still sounds nasty, I wouldn't want to eat that.

Sounds yummy to me but I am preggo and hungry lol.. I would just maybe make one thing in the crockpot instead of it all at once unless you can find a really good recipe. I found this page that looks like it has some good stuff- look at the middle section called Crockpot Thanksgiving Turkey Recipes

OK, well why don't you make a proper dinner when you have time? Like the weekend after. Can you seriously imagine all this smurf piled onto each other and then cooked together? I mean, are you even thinking about the aftermath of it?

I dont have time to cook all of it seperate, all the dishes, ect. thats the point. I work 8-4 monday (he works monday) then 8-8 tues then 8-4 wednesday after thanksgiving he will be working 2p-10p for 7 days and probably 4 or 5 of those days will end up being 2p-2a and i will also be working. wednesday is my only day- after work.. so it needs to cook while i am away.

ive never made it before, the recipe i have from someone else. it was just a thought. she makes it all the time and her & her kids & husband love it.

i hate cranberry sauce, so it wasnt even going to be included

I would probably just do a small turkey or chicken in the crock pot and make the sides. You can have the crock pot going while you're working. Making the sides shouldn't take more than 45 minutes.

Sounds like pretty selfish people to me, my family would be the exact same way, I would be told to make a plate before everyone ate.

I would just do that minus a lot of stuff.

Or maybe you can make the mashed potatoes beforehand, mix the green bean casserole (if you eat that), and put a turkey breast in the crock pot? Then just pop the casserole in the oven, heat up the potatoes, and heat up rolls and whatever else? That's what I'd do. Well, not really...I'd just make my husband a plate of leftovers lol.

If i cant find a turkey shepherds pie reciepe, thats what ill do. I could ASK SO to make some side dishes, but didnt want to... since its HIS dinner...
