Traveling

posted 8th Nov
With thanksgiving coming up, I want to travel back home to see my family but I'm on the fence about it because my daughter has a high risk for RSV and just got over bronchiolitis two weeks ago. I'm going to call her doc next week and see what they say, but what would you ladies do?

Why is she at a higher risk?

She was a preemie and has a school aged sibling.

I"m sorry, I just realized where this was posted. That was stupid of me. I would go with what the doctor says   hope it's ok!

Is she getting synagis shots? How far is family and is it a lot of people?

Honestly RSV is serious stuff, even more so for a preemie. I would recommend trying to stay quarantined as much as possible during RSV season. Especially traveling out of state because you won't be near your regular hospitals.

Her doc hasn't even mentioned those shots, but my daughter has Medicaid here, so they might not be covered. Yes my family is out of state, about 6hrs. Counting my four, there will be 13 people there in total.

That is a lot of people to expose her to. You should ask the pedi if they think synagis would be necessary for your preemie.

Honestly last year we had to stay away from family and it sucked, but she didn't get sick so it was worth it.

My son has Medicaid too (b/c of the gestational age he was born at). If it were just my insurance covering his synegis i would not be able to afford it. Medicaid is covering the cost.

Thanks for all the advice. We have decided not to go. We rather be safe than sorry. I've heard of the synagis shot but her doc hasn't even mentioned to me and I don't go back until the beginning of December.
