Need exercise advice.

posted 8th Nov
My birthday is in 15 weeks and I'd like to lose 30lbs. (50lbs would be better) My eating habits are good, now I just need to work on exercising.. I don't have a car so I can't go to the gym, I'm on a budget so I can't go buy any exercise equipment, and I have a bad knee from an injury when I was a child. When I was pregnant my blood pressure was high and it has still not went back to normal, so I cannot do anything intense. I was thinking of going for 60 minute walks with my daughter but I really hate to go outside with her by myself.   If I sucked it up and walked for 60 minutes a day, would that be enough to lose the 30lbs? BTW I'm very overweight, I won't use the other word to describe myself.. Please help ladies.

It's recommended to lose 1-2 lbs a week for healthy weightless.

Do you drink soda? Cut every drink out except for water and drink lots of it.

Walking wouldn't do too much, it would be better to jog/run but I'm guessing that's hard with a bad knee....
Then do some sit ups, push up, planks, wall sits etc. you can find exercise videos on YouTube.

Sounds like you have an excuse for everything. I would suck it up and walk an hour a day. Power walking. If anything. My husband hurt his knee and back in Afghanistan pretty bad. And he still runs five miles a day.

I would go to your doctor and ask him what you can handle and what you cannot handle. If you can't do any kind of exercise that brings up your heart rate, it's going to be REALLY hard to lose the weight you want, especially in that amount of time. Most people who lose weight at that rate (2lbs a week) are doing heavier exercise with cardio and what not. After a while of walking, your body is going to be used to it, and it 's going to become less effective. Like I said, go talk to a doctor and see what he/she thinks.

My doctor told me 30minutes 3 times a week. And nothing intense. No running or jogging. Hes already had to double my BP medicine since the birth of my daughter. I only drink water and some juice because I am EPing. No sodas and I must maintain a low sodium diet. Eating this way has helped me lose some weight. I lost my pregnancy weight (35lbs) and an extra 25lbs. But I have a long way to go. I have some 5lb weights, but that's all the exercising stuff I have.

That sucks, I don't really know what to tell you. It's not impossible, but it is going to be hard to lose all the weight you want without being able to do more vigorous exercises. The problem with only being able to walk, is that there is no muscle confusion in that, and it becomes less and less effective as your body adjusts to it. I would either carry the weights or throw them in a backpack and carry them that way while walking. I know that my body would never drop 30 in 15 weeks without more intense exercises, but I don't know what your body is like, or how much weight you have to lose. If you are quite overweight then it will be a lot easier to get the weight off walking, but if you are closer to an average build it's going to be much harder.

Good luck!

I'm far from average. All together I have another 150lbs to lose, :/ I just need to get my BP back to normal so I can get back to the gym. Once my daughter turns 6 months she can be in the gym day care. It would be so much easier, I know. I'll just start walking and hope for the best! Thanks for the help.
