Losing someone to suicide

We found out today that a very good friend of ours died unexpectedly, and we just found out he took his own life. I have known people before that have done it, but no one I was close to. I knew he was depressed, but I didn't know it was this bad, I just wish he would have reached out to us. I don't even begin to know how to process this.

It's hard to process... SO's friend who was in the military shot himself this year, and he was a REALLY good friend of his... and we found out recently another mutual friend hung himself in 2009. It sucks... I'm sorry for your loss...

Thank you so much, this has affected my DH a lot more since finding out, he was friends with him for a very long time, a lot longer than me.

When I lost a friend I deployed with to suicide- I didn't know how to act at all. We weren't super close, but we were good friends. I cried, and pondered for awhile why, or what was going on that made him do it.. but you can't change anything, and I know it's painful to realize that.

I also lost my uncle to suicide, but I was younger, and didn't really understand.

I know it hurts- I hope you heal soon from your loss. <3

Same here, SO was crying quite a bit... especially with his friend who was in the military. All we can do is be someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on, you know?

My dad killed himself when I was 17. It's hard and unfortunately you will never understand it. I still to this day struggle with the "why" even though he left a note. It's really hard even after so many years.

suicide is terrible. I've lost a few people in my family and a few friends to it. I'm not sure it's ever really sunk in or taken affect on me. It's just hard. I'm so sorry.

it is honestly a very long and hard process. my cousin took his life in 2001 at the age of 15. it still effects me today, however it does get easier, and it has opened a new perspective to me on peoples feelings (not saying i didnt care, but now there are better signs to look for i didnt see as a threat then... granted i was 12) however, it just takes time :/ but you will feel better. the "what could i have done" or "why?" will always be there, but with time you learn to deal with those unanswered questions more and more. :/
