Mommas with other children

posted 7th Nov
How did you introduce the newborn to the sibling? My husband thinks it would be a good idea to bring our son in after we have her And maybe giving him a gift from his new sister. He is only 2 and throughout my pregnancy he has been very aware of the new baby. Any suggestions?

I had a c-section but my first daughter was there waiting for me from recovery. We had to wait 5 hours but when they finally brought our twin girls in, the 5 of us just sat together in the bed. She (well, we) got a present from the babies and there was a big sister balloon. She held them and sang to them. It was probably one of the best moments in my life. But, even now and throughout the twins' lives, she's been an amazing and helpful big sister. I think showing them they're involved too helps a lot. It's easy to not have the older child help sometimes but getting them to bring you a diaper, a wipe or bottle or anything simple they can help with makes them feel important and involved. Try and allow the sibling to be around the baby as much as he/she can stand. I nursed my twins for 6 months and it felt like all I did was baby to boob 24/7...and all the while, my oldest was 22 months when they were born, she was right by my side watching. She even tried to bf one of them and pump her own boobies   . You'll do great and it will all work out. You have to give some time for adjustment if your oldest isn't into the baby. It will change with some time.

Thank you this was awesome advice. I can't wait until she is here.

The gift thing is great! We got her a baby doll and accessories, some stickers and a new outfit. You are going to want some time without your older child just for you and baby though so if you can get your oldest something really special to them, it might help you as well. It's amazing. I was so scared to have her and a set of twins but seeing them all together, even to today, it's the one thing I can count on to bring me a lot of joy each day. Good luck!!

My in laws brought my daughter to the hospital while I was in labor (when I was close to having him) and I know they talked alot about how baby brother was gonna be here soon. She got to come in and meet him after he was born. My daughter was very chill about everything. Never got jealous or anything. It was like he had been there all along and she was totally fine.
