prep for breastfeeding?

What do you do? I know right when the baby is born you feed him. But I want to know about the before....? someone help please

You'll need a Boppy. For sure. There really isn't much you can do to prepare. Just don't give up on trying to get baby to latch, and nurse asap after birth. Get help if you need it. I can help if you encounter problems, PM me  

You don't do anything before.
I would find a local Le leche league group and maybe attend a meeting, that way youl have a support group to help you deal with bf after birth.

There's nothing you have to do before lol
Just make sure you have lanolin cream and lots of bra pads!

Best thing you can do right now is look up your local La Leche Leage group (they are all over the world) and leader and go to a meeting- normally once (maybe twice a month). Read up on the topics and talk to other nursing moms. Breast feeding is a lot of work and not very easy for some in the beginning. Here are a couple of web sites that are quite helpful:

You do nothing, I would go and research positions during pregnancy. Don't be afraid to ask the nurses questions or if you need help. That was my first mistake with my 2 year old. I didn't ask for help, this time around my 2 week old nurses like a professional. Lol

Just be confident and have patience.

The truth is almost every woman can breastfeed sucessfully if she is supported by a group of women who have experience breastfeeding but many of us move away from family for work or school or have families who were tricked into using formula so they don't have experience to share. It is possible to do it alone but it is a lot easier if you can get some good advice from BF experts!

If you have a midwife then they will help you with BF info and tips before and after. If not then I would find out if there are any prenatal classes in your area that are focused on supporting women in breastfeeding where you can get some information. La leche league is always a good resource. I would find out if they have meetings in your area for support and encouragement.

Ask if the birthing center or hospital where you are delivering has certified lactation consultants (LC's) to help out in the first minutes/hours/day. Gettng off to a good start helps build confidence. If not then I would consider hiring an LC or post partum doula if you can afford it. Even one visit the day after can be a big help.

I can give you lots of tips if you like. I EBFed my DD for 6 months and then started solids and then she slowly ate more and BFed less until I dried up at 16 months (partially due to pregnancy #2). I really loved the BF experience and feel like it made that first year SO much easier!

Its a "U" shaped pillow you wrap around yourself. Baby sits on top and it gives support for breast feeding. The easiest positions with it is the football and underarm. Best invention ever for breast feeding. They make all different brands of them but Boppy is the most well known. They also make suuuper cute covers for them. You can find them used on Ebay and baby thrift stores and whatnot. I bet you could even find someone here on BG who isn't using one you could buy or trade.

I have no idea when I stopped using mine lol I just know I never went anywhere in the house with out it and I'm SO glad I still have it.
My cousin is a bigger girl and it didn't work out too well for her, so lucky me I got it   Best baby shower gift ever!!

Oh yeah, a nursing pillow is nice to have   Especially when they are little.

You can also lay your child on their back or on their belly in it. My son LOVED laying on his back in it, facing the back of the couch and just kicking the smurf out of the back of the couch when he was smaller.

Yes they are great for tummy time before they're able to hold their head up while on their stomach. So many activities!!
