Miri short for Miriam.

Simple question -

Is the name Miri usually short for Miriam, or have you ever heard of someone naming their daughter Miri? I love the name Miri, but Miriam makes me wanna gouge my eyes out with a fork.

I dont care if you dont like Miri, I just need the facts.  

I have a friend named Miriam and she likes to be called MirMir lol.

You could name your daughter Miri if you wanted to.
I only heard it as a nickname for Miriam....mainly in Zack and Miri make a porno (sorry)

But, Miri as a name sounds very cute

thats where i got it from. i was sitting here, on facebook, and looked down at the dvd cover and i was like...OMG! it's cute!

My first thought! lol But I think it you could just use Miri, it's cute.

Miri is a nickname for Miriam

Mira is a real name.

Mira makes me think of a meerkat.  

I've heard of Miri being more of a NN for Miriam, rather than a first name.
We call my niece Miri but her name is Mireya.

BTW Mira means sea or ocean in Sanscrit. It was the name of an Indian Princess.
