toilet fear...

posted 7th Nov
After giving birth vaginally to DD I was scared to have a bowel movement. Luckily I didn't have one during labour or for about five days afterwards. I don't know why but ever since then I am scared to go. I know it probably sounds stupid. It's just because I didn't have one for so long after giving birth because I'd built it up in my head that it was such a big deal and was going to hurt. So now every time I need the toilet I get so worked up about it. What can I do?! Ugh. I need to go now but I've been constipated so I know it's gonna hurt and bring back memories... LOL sorry this sounds so crazy.

i had a c-section, i was terrified to even pee, it took an entire day for me to be able to pee, then 4 days for a BM and i was terrified!

I hated to pee too but the amount of water I was drinking it had to be done. But because the sensation of passing a number two is similar to the pressure when pushing it just scares me :')

Activia! It works for irregularity and makes it easier to go when bound up. I was bound up for nearly a week and started eating it 4-5 days ago. Makes things softer and easier to pass.

Activia should work. I used to eat if all the time but it made me "too loose" (I have IBS lol).
When I gave birth to DD, the hospital gave me stool softeners to take home

I feel your pain!! Before giving birth I had a bowel condition but it was perfectly managable, but as I pushed DS out I felt my piles pop out (TMI lol), after that it really hurt to go. Now they're gone and everything's back to normal I still hate having to go for a BM. I agree with the bearing down part, its weird using the same muscles. I find taking a good book into the bathroom helps lol

Lol, when I read this I sang it like in the Activia commercials. I was going to suggest this though. I haven't tried to use it, but I have been told it works wonders.

I was scared to death to go after I had the baby. Peeing was uncomfortable enough. They started giving me softeners in the hospital still, and I continued to take them after i got home for... ehh.. maybe a month. Just to be on the safe side. The pressure is a scary feeling! I had alot of stitches and I was afraid that they'd all bust loose. lol They didn't. Holding it out of fear won't make it any better.

Good luck! Take it slow.

Thanks all   it's not so much the pain that scares me but the fear of actually doing it. I'm sure I will get over it eventually. I went earlier and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be :L
