The last I was reading and heard, Obama won the popular vote.. I've seen it both on CNN and FOX news. I could be wrong though?

I agree that if we are using an electoral system, then states should be able to split their votes accordingly.

BUT, I still think popular vote should rule. Why tell the county that each and every vote counts when it doesn't? Popular vote system = EVERY vote counts.

Because electoral votes are derived from the popular vote, cast in the primaries. We all got two votes for president. That's why the primary election is so important.

Pretty sure electoral votes are derived from the number of representatives that each state has in the House, based on population, plus two per state for their senators.

They are. That's true. But logically, whoever a particular state nominates in the primaries is who wins that state in the general.

That leads me to local elections and how important THEY are. Your* state reps are also elected. Todays mayor or congressperson could very well be a presidential nominee at some point. People need to choose wisely because the person they elect as their "voice" is going to take that voice all the way to Washington, KWIM.

We have a tiered government that SHOULD provide checks and balances, overall. It SHOULD work because it's a brilliant system............if politicians were honest. But because they aren't and politics is a game of greed and power, the very people you* elect could turn on you* for money or power.

I think there is one thing that we can all agree on and that is that power can be bought. There is no integrity left in politics.

On a side note, although I don't agree with all you say, you really are level headed and informed. I very much appreciate that about you.

I understand what you mean. However, it isn't necessarily true that whoever a state votes for in the primary elections is who the electoral votes will go to in the end. Even blue states vote in the Republican primary, and vice versa. FL, OH and CA, all major blue states with more than the average number of electoral votes, went for Romney in the primary elections. Even in years (like 2016) when there are primaries for both parties, each state will have one nominee for each party.
