Is using any variation of the N word okay?

A friend of mine (she is black and her DD is 6 and half black half hispanic) and I were hanging out today. Her DD said "damn it smurf" because my DS (he is 2) accidentally spilled her soda. My DS is in a repeating stage and tried to say the N word. I never say it and I quickly corrected my DS and asked my friend if she could ask her DD to not say that word. She told me it is okay for her DD to say it because she is half black, it is only offensive if white people use it.

I hang out with lots of black people. My BIL is black. We all say it but not offensively. I think it depends on the person you are saying it to and if they take offense to it or not.

I don't think it's okay for anyone to use that word...

I think it's 100% unacceptable to use out side of say a history class.
My boys have heard the word, know the meaning and are taught never to say it, regardless of who thinks its acceptable.

If its not ok for one group to say it- it should not be ok for anyone to say.

I think it is a disgusting word and it's offensive no matter who uses it.

I find it very hypocritical for african americans to find it okay for them to use the N word, but if a white person uses it in the same exact context it it offensive.

If you do not want to be called a name by one person, no one should be "allowed" to call you that name.

I work with a half black guy who says it all the time in the kitchen.
but if anyone says it back he flips out.
I don't care for the word at all though. it bothers me

I think it is ridiculous to make a blanket statement that it is only offensive if white people say it. I don't say it anyways because I think it is generally offensive.

i think its unacceptable. same as cracker.

regardless of who should be and should not be able to say it a 6 year old should never have said it in the first place.

i dont say "smurf" but i say smurf, but thats just the way i talk. i dont see it offensive and im not saying it to somebody to sound racism.
