How do you explain dvr'ing to children?

My oldest watches tv while her sister naps and before bedtime- I know I'm an awful mom, don't stone me!   Because she loves a bunch of shows on Disney Junior, we dvr them for her and play them back for her during these designated tv times. Disney Junior does this thing where they tell you the month and the day of week. My daughter is also learning months and days of the week in school. Today she was watching a show that recorded on Thursday and she knows that today is Tuesday so she came to me upset and wanted to know why her tv was telling her it was Thursday when it's definitely Tuesday. I tried to explain we recorded the show on Thursday and that's why it was saying that but she didn't get it and was very mad that "my tv is lying to me." I'm sure this is a passing moment and she'll forget it later but how should I have explained this to her? I did record an episode that was currently airing and said "Look, this show is on RIGHT now at 4pm and I'm recording this. Now, we can watch it tomorrow which is wednesday but it will have recorded today, tuesday." I really stink at this stuff. She was not happy with my answers.

Hmm.. She's a smart cookie.

What about recording something while she's watching it. Say, 5 mins worth. Then stopping it, rewinding it and replaying it, while explaining what you did before.

Good advice! I'll try that. It was really funny how upset she was about it. I'm proud that she knew it was Tuesday though.

I would however use this as an ample opportunity to let her know that TVs lie all the time; those cool toys and infomercials they get hyped up about, it's mostly junk.

My kids are driving me CRAZY telling me what they saw on tv that they want.
I got stupid and bought them slushie magic. Yeh, that was dumb. So I introduced them to the idea of Ren and Stimpy's Log.

OMG for a whole month, everday I picked DD up from the sitter's house, she told me how she wanted a Barbie Castle she saw on t.v. I friggin hate toy commercials.
