Natural Birth and/or Homebirth anyone??

posted 6th Nov
So I'm not a pregnant teen anymore... But I was a pregnant teen, and I was a teen mom.

When I was pregnant with my daughter Makenna who is now 5 i was pretty much oblivious to the idea of natural birth and especially homebirth. Now pregnant with my little number 2 I refuse to have it any other way.
So I'm here to ask, are any of the young mommas out there opting for either a natural birth or a home birth??

and if so what brought you to that decision?

respect.

I had a home birth with my daughter when I was 19. I knew from the beginning I wanted a low intervention birth because I've always been anti-meds (even tylenol lol). Then I saw The Business of Being Born and fell in love with the idea of a home birth. I had a 31 hour labor at home and my daughter Leah was born underwater, 9lbs3oz. I didn't tear. I am 23 now and expecting my son any day now, and he will (with luck) be born at home also.   I wish more young mothers knew about this option because an unnecessary c-section at 17 can negatively impact any other births that woman may have.

That's so beautiful that at 19 you already at the mind set.
When i was 16 my daughter was brought into this world via an involuntary C Section.
Being so young I put all my faith in the doctor. Now I know that doing a home birth is going to be a bit riskier for me.

I'd even go as far to say that it is imperative that young women be informed about home birthing. from experience i feel they are the ones who need that authentic experience the most.

I agree. I hate that its so taboo. Though it is becoming more widely known/accepted... You wouldn't believe some of the reactions I got when I told people I had my daughter at home... I've been called a bad mom, a danger to my child... as if people think I'm giving birth in my back yard, lol. I could have easily had a hospital birth this time around, covered completely by my state health insurance, but I am instead choosing to be on a payment plan with my midwife for the $3600 it costs for a home birth. It's a shame that the financial difficulties exist too, because some women don't HAVE the option that I do, of paying it off slowly... and I know the financial aspect is an extreme deterrent for teen or young mothers... The value of an intervention free birth isn't realized...

I was 23 when I delivered my son naturally. I didnt do any research on childbirth techniques and just planned on getting the epi because "thats what everyone does".

I got to the hospital and was 8 cm! Things moved so fast I didnt have time for any meds.

After my son was born I was very proud of myself. I was completely quiet through my labor. I thought I handled myself quite well.

When I got pregnant with my daughter I knew I was going natural. I made some plans on how to handle contractions.

I was induced with my daughter at 36 weeks 3 days. (multiple reasons. just ask if curious).

I was at 5 cm when they started things. I immediately toom control of my contractions. By simply breathing deeply I completely controlled my pain. I felt absolutely nothing.

Her labor lasted only 36 minutes and I actually enjoyed it.

I was the talk of the hospital. I laughed and joked through labor.

I am super proud of being a natural birther.

I might consider homebirth but dont think there will be a next time!

had i been more informed i would've def gone with a midwife over an ob. my doctors are great, but i think a midwife would've been a more personal experience (which is what i wanted) my due date is two days away though
i'm still going to try to go med-free & induction-free if i can help it.

I can't have a home birth, and I couldn't have with my daughter because I had to have an OB for high risk (short cervix).
BUUUUT I did have a natural birth with my daughter & am planning to again this time around
I am TERRIFIED of needles, which is why I didn't want an epidural at first.. then I read about all the side effects & decided that would be a last resort type deal. When I was 8cm & they broke my water, they told me it was to late now .. and as much as I was proud of myself, I never wanted the epidural so bad LOL! BUT I felt great after giving birth, I had to get stitches & that was it

Well, I'm nineteen and pregnant, but I'll be giving birth when I'm twenty, so not sure if I count here.
I'll be having an unassisted homebirth.   I've been pretty informed about birth and birth choices for a while I guess.

I really want to deliver naturally. I've always been interested in pregnancy and was thinking about going to school to be a labor and delivery nurse...

I wish I was doing a home birth. Hospitals to me are filled with bacteria and I feel like it messes with the true beauty of birth. Even though I will be delivering all naturally! Hopefully I can do it!

I am 19 and am doing a natural birth at the hospital. There aren't midwifes in my town and I would rather be at a hospital just incase my baby needs medical attention right away. I am due Jan 8 with my first boy. My babyshower is tomorrow. His arrival is getting closer and closer.

I've seen a lot of natural births and watched a couple documentaries. What I've gathered is that as long you as make the decision to do it naturally that you can. If you go into doubting your ability to do it all natural, that can work against you.

So just try and focus on the fact that your body, as a goddess on this planet, was MADE to do this naturally and that you absolutely can do it
positive thinking mama. congrats and respect for making that decision
