How do you

know what to get your non verbal older child for Birthday or Christmas?
I thought I had figured his Birthday out. I thought he wanted boats. But then with his Birthday money he ran straight to an airplane and that's what he had wanted.  

So I want to make sure I get him what he really wants. Any ideas? He's 3. So if I let him run around the store showing me what he wants, poor kid is going to be upset when we leave with nothing.

I'm sure he'd like other things, but those are things he can show me from around the house. And we have a lot of three year old appropriate toys that you'd immediately think of so I need to figure out a way for him to show me what he wants. IDK maybe I'm being complicated.

well, if you want him to show you what he wants, get a Toys R Us ad, or similar ad and see if he will point out what he likes.
