What would make a child

posted 6th Nov
constantly put everything their mouth?

Like from toys to pens, to rings to bracelts hairties etc....just anything that can fit in there. The tv remote to be chewed on, or the telephone. Just to naw on it, and not even realize they are doing it?

I am always nagging dd to take stuff out of her mouth, and taking stuff away, and she always says she didnt even realize she was doing it. IDK frustrated with it, everything is always chewed up.

How old is she? DS does it constantly. We have a bunch of toys that are "mouth friendly" haha. He is 13 months and has done it since he figured out how to pick stuff up.

It sounds like a sensory issue. Checkthis link out for more info on SPD.

Oh! Well that's a tough one. A couple people I know have to always be doing something with their hands, like they can't keep still. But I don't know if there's a name for it or if it's even considered a problem. I mean, maybe she should take up knitting or something?

I chewed on the remote and phone antenna with out realizing it until I was like 13 or 14. And I still chew on pens and pencils until this day without realizing it.

Sigmund Freud would postulate that she is orally fixated because of something that happened in infancy.... because of something sexual. He was little fixated with sex.

Maybe she has some kind of nutrient deficiency? Or maybe she just likes to put things in her mouth.

A sensory problem.

Thats pretty obvious unless you have already ruled that out.

My son sucks on his shirt. He has SPD and is Autistic.

Its all been ruled out. IDK, its annoying constantly telling her and same teacher is tired of telling too, and when she talks to you her fingers are always in her mouth.

I'd get a second opinion on the SPD.
