re: Do you have a carpet cleaner?

It's pretty loud, yes.

I just send the kids to their room to play, shampoo the carpets and then put them to bed. That way, it doesn't wake them up while I'm shampooing but they go right to bed so they don't walk on it.

I don't know how other carpet cleaners are, but you have to mix the cleaning solution with a certain amount of water, so it's kind of hard to spot clean. The only time I take it out to "spot clean" is if someone spills water, that way it just sucks up all the extra water. I wouldn't make a whole batch of cleaning solution just to clean a small spill.

Ah that's a great idea as well! & yeah that's how the rug doctor is too (mixing cleaning solution/water)

Can you use that one on tile/hardwood floors as well? We hve tile in the kitchen & hardwood in the dining room.

I have never used it on hard floors, so I googled it. Looks like you can buy an attachment so that you can use it on hardwood and tile.
