Making daycare transition eaiser?

posted 6th Nov
My son is 3, he has been in the same daycare since he was 6months old. Due to family issues his daycare had to close and they up and moved to Utah.   We have been looking for a new place for him, I even took him with me to see which places he liked better. Well we picked one, and he started today. Its a Kindercare, so its a center setting. More like a preschool vs. daycare. He was ok when we walked in, was playing and fine then he saw his old friend from his previous daycare. She was a mess, crying and crying. He FREAKED out and said "ok mama, I go now, lets go. I go to yaya's(Old daycare)" I had to tell him he was going to stay there...I stayed wit him for about 15min, I had to leave so he didnt see me cry. I was walking away and he was pounding on the window crying and yelling "mama dont leave me here."

WORST feeling EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need help, for him and me. How do I make this transition easier on us both?

I'd wait and see how it went. He may surprise you and have been fine after 5 minutes. There's not much you can do besides talk about it later and make sure he knows its a safe place with friends. And I wouldn't stay so long with him next time, just drop him off and give him kisses. The longer you stay the harder it will be on him when you leave.

I tried not to stay so long, but I was having a hard time leaving. I know my fault. But its so hard to just walk away when he is crying like that.

I couldn't imagine a daycare setting for my son, but I assume he'd probably get used to it with time just as the other kids do. Give him a few weeks to adjust and then if he's still crying, I'd investigate the issue a little further.

My son goes to grandmas and there isn't a day he doesn't tell me to stay and fuss a little (and he's almost 3), but once I'm gone, grandma says he's fine and plays with his cousins very well. If I leave him in a foreign place, he still cries very hard when I leave, but people say he's fine after 15 minutes.

Drop him off and go next time. Assure him it's safe and fun and you'll be back. For us, this works best so he doesn't get too attached to the fact that I MIGHT stay.
